Shannon here: Inspirational romance author, Alexis A. Goring shares insight into being single and finding romance. Comment or answer the question at the end of post to enter the drawing for a singed copy of her novella collection, Hope in My Heart. Deadline: May 30th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Alexis:
- Are you open to your own romance?
Yes and no.
Yes because I love hearing real-life couples’ true love stories and reading romance stories that are fictional and watching characters play out epic love stories on the movie screen. One of my ultimate favorite movies that I have not seen yet but fell in love with the movie trailer is, Mahogany. I love the official video for the theme song, “Do You Know Where You’re Going To” performed by Diana Ross who also is the leading lady/actress in the movie Mahogany. See the official video here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3uatcJqt54
Diana’s character in the movie Mahogany is a lot like me from what I can see—creative, hopeful, a dreamer, fashionista and a hopeless romantic.
So YES I am open to my own romance because I want to find true love and keep true love with the man of my dreams whom I’m trusting God to reveal to me in His perfect time.
But at the same time, no, I’m not open to my own romance because I’ve spent so much time being single and enjoying the freedom that comes with it that falling in love and settling down kind of scares me.
Honestly, when it comes to this topic, I’m a lot like Chandra McIntire from “Love Unexpected” which is the first story in my inspirational romance novella titled Hope in My Heart: A Collection of Heartwarming Stories. She’s Ms. Independent, a creative, hard-working woman who excels in the workplace but when it comes to matters of the heart, she has a lot of walls up (for good reasons) and it takes the right guy to break through to her heart.
- What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?
Loyalty to God is the most important quality because if a man is loyal to God first and foremost, not only will he be loyal to you, he’ll know how to lead you closer to the throne of God. He will be a good husband and father to however many children the good Lord blesses your marriage with and He’ll be that person who complements you not just because of your compatibility or chemistry but because both he and you know that God brought you two together.
I believe a married couple’s true love for God and loyalty to God will keep their marriage together as long as they keep God as the center of their relationship. They also need to work together to weather the good and bad days, looking to God for help and guidance. And I’d say, they should always remember and cherish their memory of how they fell in love. God is the ultimate matchmaker. He totally has my permission to write my true love story!
- What’s the number two quality you’d require in a mate?
A great sense of humor because it’s important not only on good days but to lighten the mood when life throws you curve balls or things aren’t going a perfect as you had planned.
The Bible says in Proverbs 17:22 that “a cheerful heart is good medicine,” so of course I want a man who can make me laugh. We’d probably make each other laugh because I’m known for making people laugh too!
- What type of character traits are you attracted to?
Good sense of humor, honesty, loyalty, compassionate heart, patience, great faith in God and financial responsibility. It’s a beautiful bonus if he can cook real good food too!
- What’s the one habit or lifestyle that would make you run the other way?
A love for everything God hates.
- Where do you dream of getting married?
Inside a beautiful seaside chapel in Barbados, St. Lucia or Napa Valley, California.
- What would be the best gift a potential mate could buy for you?
Money so that I can buy whatever I need and want.

About the book – Hope in My Heart:
Hope in My Heart is a collection of short, heartwarming stories with characters in need of hope.
In “Love Unexpected,” a car crash brings commitment-wary Sebastian and career woman Chandra together. Neither is looking for romance, but those around them see the potential, and Sebastian and Chandra discover that sometimes love shows up unexpectedly.
Christmastime is the setting for the middle story, “The Best Gift.” Christina desires to lose ten pounds so she can fit into her dress for her sister’s wedding. Jordan wishes her mom would stop trying to marry her off. And Joshua hopes to be reunited with his ex-girlfriend but eventually learns that the best gift this Christmas will be the restoration of his relationship with God.
In “Peace and Love,” three characters living in a metropolitan area are desperately searching. Elle, a starving artist, aspires to become a paid professional. Eric, a divorce attorney, wants to resolve his issues concerning his parents’ divorce. Kristine anticipates finding her birth mom before she marries Derek. All characters pray their searches will conclude this holiday season and fill their hearts with peace and love.
