Travel Delays and other Adventures
I don’t know when the last time you flew is, but the more I hear about it, the more I think I can wait a bit longer to go again. Travel delays. Canceled flights. Departure times rescheduled. No thank you.
After all, years ago, I lived through the stress of having flights canceled. We were headed from Austin, TX to Memphis, TN. You’d think it would be a straight shot, but we had a layover in Dallas. And tornadoes were sweeping through the area that day.
We were supposed to land in Memphis early afternoon. Instead, we ended up changing our flights to Little Rock, landing later than the original plan called for, and still having to drive two more hours to Memphis. Getting in around eleven-thirty is not my idea of a fun trip. Especially with a full day planned the next day.
It did, however, give me fodder for my new book.
In Roadtrip for Two, Bree and Nathan are both flying to Houston to hop on a cruise—the cruise that was supposed to be their honeymoon. Neither expected the other to take the trip too, but they run into each other in Dallas during a layover. A layover that turns into canceled flights due to a hurricane in the gulf spinning tornadoes across the state.
Sound familiar?
Instead of changing flights or waiting out the storms, Bree decides to change her plans and turns the disaster into a roadtrip. Of course, Nathan can’t let her explore that huge city alone, so he joins her. Nothing like doing a roadtrip with your ex-fiancé.
While travel delays can lead to rough times, they don’t always have to. Yes, that day my husband and I had to rearrange everything to get where we needed to be wasn’t fun. But we did get to eat really good ice cream while waiting for flights. And we did eventually reach our destination.
Just like everything in life, curve balls will be thrown. It’s what we do with them that counts. I chose to use that bad experience to write a book. My characters chose to use their travel struggles to end up with a unique experience, exploring Dallas, Texas. Turning bad things into good is a great skill to have. Especially when in a relationship.
Question for Readers: What do you think? Is travel worth all the delays and craziness? Do you think my couple will come out stronger than ever after going through their own travel craziness?
About Amy: Amy R Anguish grew up a preacher’s kid, and in spite of having lived in seven different states that are all south of the Mason Dixon line, she is not a football fan. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her husband, daughter, and son, and usually a bossy cat or two. Amy has an English degree from Freed-Hardeman University that she intends to use to glorify God, and she wants her stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good. About the book – Roadtrip for One Two:
Recovering from heartbreak is hard when the ex-fiancé tags along.
Dallas, Texas wasn’t in the plans when Bree Henley set out to use the nonrefundable honeymoon tickets from her canceled wedding. Nor was running into ex-fiancé Nathan Hart. But their mutual friends and the weather have other ideas. A hurricane cancels their cruise and Bree decides to turn the disaster into a roadtrip for one, never imagining Nathan would object.
Nathan is furious when he uncovers the plot to get him back with Bree. But he can’t just let her go roaming around the big city of Dallas alone. Though he knows calling off their wedding was the right thing to do, he still cares for Bree. And before he knows what hits him, he’s volunteered to tag along. Suddenly, it’s a trip for two.
Spending the week together might remind them of why they fell in love. But is it enough to overcome the obstacles standing in the way of “til death do us part”?

It sounds like a really interesting book. Yes, I think travel is worth all the delays and craziness. I have done quite a bit of traveling over the years, but fortunately have never had to deal with a canceled flight nor lost luggage. Anything can happen during a plane trip or cruise. You just have to deal with any problems when and/or if they happen.
Amy Anguish says
Agreed. Even though it can come with complications, I think it’s still worth it too. 🙂

I think it is worth the effort but it sure is draining emotionally and physically when it occurs. Sounds like a great plot. Amazing how God brings good out of the bad. You ended up with a great story.

I think it’s worth the craziness one year when I went traveling I had no Id cause i didn’t have my license yet so I had to get sent to security to get patted down on the way there and back so after that happened I got an id but now I have an licence so when I travel to Hawaii in January it shouldn’t happen again.
