Shannon here: Romantic Suspense author, Mary Anslee shares her recipe for perfect French toast. Comment on any post dated July 7 – 9 to enter the drawing for a copy of her latest release, Smoky Mountain Investigation. Deadline: July 19th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Annslee:
I love to cook! So, of course, my heroines do also. My Italian heritage is full of great cooks. My grandmother cooked from scratch, a tradition that I like to carry on. Like homemade marinara sauce, chicken and dumplings and a host of baked goods. Although, I do substitute bakery bread for the homemade variety she used to bake, unless of course, it’s the holidays.
In my book, Smoky Mountain Investigation, my heroine, Kylie Harper cooks up one of hero, Nick Bentley’s favorite breakfast: French Toast. A simple delicious recipe.
And what hero doesn’t enjoy a great meal! I know my hubby hero does.
Perfect French Toast
6 — 1 ½” slices homemade or French Bread – slightly stale works best
2 large eggs scrambled
¾ cup of milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 Tablespoon butter
In medium size mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs and vanilla.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Dip bread into mixture, allow to soak for 30 seconds on each side.
Over medium-low heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a 10-inch nonstick saute pan. Place slices of bread in the pan and cook until golden brown, approximately 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove and place on a cookie sheet and then bake in oven for 5 minutes. Serve immediately with butter, warm maple syrup, whipped cream or fruit.

Those are the ingredients of how I make French toast but never thought to cook in oven.

OOOPs Not sure what happened to my answer the first time.
This recipe sounds good. I don’t like when my french toast is floppy (make sense). I bet the cookie sheet in the oven for a finish off will help this. 🙂
I make a lot of things from scratch too. Haven’t mastered bread yet. I do make a mean Italian pepper biscuit though. 🙂
