Shannon here: Carole Brown shares insight into her real life romance & a chance to win a copy of her latest mystery, Bat Crazy. Comment or answer the question at the end of the post to enter the drawing. Deadline: Sept 12th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Carole:
- What’s the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?
Well, we weren’t rich when we first met, but for our first Christmas, my two present requests were for: a piano and white roses. I got both! My husband has seldom let me down through the years.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?
I LOVE romantic dinners! We don’t really have a favorite, but candles, flowers and quiet music and conversation with the man I adore, sounds romantic to me!
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
We love the old romantic songs like: Sweet Caroline and Through the Years
Recently, we’ve enjoyed I Love Dreaming
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
My husband does a lot of romantic things for me, but one of my favorites was when he was giving a report to a conference and in it he not only thanked his wife (me!) but presented me with a dozen roses. Beautiful act of love.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic vacation destination?
We love traveling so it’s hard to pick, but the Smokies is one of our very favorites. Whether we’re laughing together or listening to music shows or walking in the streams and forest trails, we love being together. Because we work at it, in spite of our differences, our love is stronger than ever.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
My husband is a super polite man (and he taught our boys the same!) but one thing I love is his hands: the way we hold hands, the way he guides me when walking, and I love watching his hands when he’s working. Strong but gentle.

About the book – Bat Crazy:
Monster Bats with red eyes that attack humans?
Denton doesn’t think so and Alex hopes not, but who are they to quibble with the local gossip?
Transmission problems and a blown tire land Denton and Alex Davies right in the middle of a dilapidated, unfriendly town that’s welcoming no strangers, least of all nosy ones with a bent toward solving mysteries.
But with support from the town detective–an admirer of the Davies–and their own tenacious personalities, Denton and Alex aren’t easily scared off. Not when warnings in the form of painted bats show up on the porch of their rented cabin, not when the mayor threatens to run them out of town and not even when Denton finds the bones . . .
An ancient story, a bit of a map, a lost jewel and even a bat clan serve to provide the Davies and their sidekick, Taffy, the dog, their hardest case so far.
Question for readers: In Bat Crazy, Alex is not crazy about bats. What animal (insect, bird, whatever) is your least favorite; one you’re not “crazy” about?
Come back Sept 2 for Cathy Elliot!

Spiders. I hate them. With snakes you’ve got a chance of seeing them, but spiders hide easy and they’re sneaky.
Linda Rainey says
I hate cockroaches,they are disgusting.
Jerusha Agen says
Centipedes! Worst things God ever created. 🙂
Becky I. says
Bugs, spiders, snakes….remember that old song Jim Stafford sang, “I don’t like spiders or snakes?” That about sums it up for me! :>)
Carole says
Lol, ladies, I had to chuckle at all your responses and agree 100 %, altho I’ll have to admit (and I never thought I’d say this!) after lots of research, I found bats more interesting and not quite so scary as before. And I learned they are VERY beneficial to the environment. Nice touch.
Thanks so much for all the comments!
