The Blessing of Generations
Praise God for Family!
Grandmothers and grandsugars certainly have a unique and special relationship! Our children’s children hold a special place in our hearts as we snuggle them, kiss those fat little baby cheeks, watch them grow, teach them things, and pray for them and for their future spouses.
To honor those endearing bonds, I organized the all new “Grandmothers Know Best Collection”, a multi-author project (MAP), that launched this month! The premise that links our standalone stories is a grandmother who’s playing matchmaker for a grandson or granddaughter.
Doesn’t that just sound fun already? Plus being a Baby Boomer and a “chosen generation” as so many of us are, I just knew my readers would enjoy them. My contribution, MYRRH’S MATCHES FOR HER GINGERS, the first book in the series, recently debuted on January 2nd!
In it, Myrtle Tulley has helped her son-in-law rear his daughter Heather and her almost-the-same-age cousin Jorjiana since they were toddlers. This became necessary when Myrtle’s two daughters—the girls’ mothers—along with Jorji’s father were killed in a steamboat explosion.
Now the two redheads are coming of age, and Myrrh is doing her best to make sure they are open only to that unique one created just for them by Almighty God, and who could be a better judge? Right?
Persuading here and dissuading there, she bides her time, waiting for the perfect moment to speak words of encouragement that will influence her precious granddaughters. She loves completely and without conditions, forgives quickly, and is always available for advice.
This reminds me of Holy Spirit’s relationship with us. Doesn’t all that sound just like Him? Psalm 103:17 tells us the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children.
Do you hold the Heavenly Father in aww? If you answer yes, not only are His mercies on you forever but on your grandsugars! Right along with His righteousness! He cares about families and our generations! In His word, He speaks of generations, perpetual generations, and throughout your generations over a hundred times.
He is a good and faithful God Who blesses us so much. He’s blessed me with twenty-seven grandsugars (at this writing)! Ron and I have a fourth generation in our eight great-grands—forty-two descendants in our family to pray for every morning!
I am so very thankful for each and every one of my children and their children and their children. My heart is full of gratitude to Him for my generations, and I know He has blessed me! I believe that a new baby born into the family is God’s best blessing!
While being blessed is a fine thing indeed, the greater joy comes from BEING a blessing, and I would like to bless one of Inkslinger’s readers with a gift copy of JO, a Prairie Rose of mine who was orphaned then reared by her grandfather.
Question for Readers: How many grandchildren do you have? Or how many grandchildren do your grandparents have? Does everyone live close or farflung? Share a bit about your family.

About the book – Myrhh’s Matches for her Gingers:
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
Bereaved of her daughters in the same tragic accident, Myrtle Tully helps rear her two, toddler red-headed grandsugars. Heather and Jorjiana are coming of age and Boaz Salmon, partly to take his daughter and niece away from bad influences, and partly for the adventure of it–sells his apple orchard to head west. Forbidden to make promises to any suitors before their seventeenth birthdays, the girls are sorely tempted. It takes their Myrrh’s grandmotherly wisdom to ensure they both follow the righteous path. Come along on their journey across the country.
About the giveaway – Jo: Prairie Rose Collection:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path!
An evil tragedy upends Jo’s young life. Sickness propels the young lady and her grandfather from the thick, moisture-laden air of the Mississippi to drier desert land at the end of the Santa Fe Trail. Her life-long beau professes his love from the banks of the muddy river, but Papa is her whole life, and she’s determined to keep him alive. Along the way, suitors and adventures are aplenty. How is a stubborn girl who always knows what’s best supposed to choose when the one she likes best is constantly rubbing her the wrong way? Could things be any more difficult? Has she made a huge mistake?
Can’t wait for the drawing? Worried you won’t win?

We have eight, ranging in age from 4 to 21! Three in Texas, three in Oklahoma and two here in Arkansas. Nothing makes me happier than getting them together.

My paternal grandparents had 11 grandchildren. My maternal grandparents had 3. Hardly saw my maternal ones. All the grandchildren lived in the same state on my paternal side when we were kids. I’m the only one that live far away now.
Caryl McAdoo says
Hi Kim! I was an only child for 8 years, so my Texas cousins were like siblings! I also had California cousins that I only got to see once a year—Daddy’s family lived there and Mama’s were in the Dallas area!!
Debbi Reynolds says
I have 8 grandkids. One of them lives in heaven already. My mom had 11 grandkids.
Caryl McAdoo says
You have a famous name. I remember Debbie Reynolds as Tammy! Married to Eddy Fisher! I used to be Caryl Lawrence and she was married to Robert Goulet! 🙂
Diana Hardt says
My maternal grandparents had 2 grandchildren (my brother and myself). My paternal grandparents had 4 grandchildren. I never knew my paternal grandparents. They had passed away before my parents even met. My parents have 2 grandchildren. My brother and his wife live in Spain and they have 2 children.
Caryl McAdoo says
Wow! A brother who lives in Spain! Can you even imagine?? My cousin’s two sons went to live in Spain for a couple of years! I just can’t imagine living in a different country! Did his job take him there?
Diana Hardt says
He went over there to do some postdoctural work. He met the woman who would be his wife over there and stayed over there.
Caryl L McAdoo says
I hope y’all get to see him. It would be wonderful to go there to visit him and his family 🙂 BLESSINGS!
