Have you ever heard of an affogato? It’s an Italian drink/dessert traditionally called affogato al caffe which means “drowned in coffee” in Italian. Combining coffee with ice cream, this dessert is perfect for coffee lovers in the summertime.
Here’s the easy recipe:
Ingredients:
1 shot of espresso
1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream or gelato
dark chocolate shavings
Directions
Pour one shot of espresso over the ice cream in a glass mug. Sprinkle dark chocolate shavings on top to make it fancy.
Enjoy!
Switch up the ice cream flavors or follow my lead by using cold brew coffee instead of espresso. Go the easy route and use chocolate chips instead of shavings. This dessert is pretty much foolproof.
An affogato appears in a scene in an early scene in Forever Home. Merritt’s late foster mother, Millie, spent a semester studying in Florence, Italy, and astute readers will see Italian influences hidden throughout the story.
Enjoying this dessert is one way Merritt keeps Millie’s memory alive.
I enjoyed writing Forever Home, and I hope readers will love the characters as much as I do. Thanks for reading the blog today!

About the book – Forever Home: With a fulfilling job and a home of her own, former foster child, Merritt Hastings, relishes her stable, respectable life. Dreaming for more is a sure way for heartache. When a contested will turns her world upside down, she must reevaluate what’s important to her, what’s worth fighting for, and what’s worth sacrificing.
Patience has never been Sam Daniels’ strong suit with his history of acting quickly and asking questions later, and he’s ready for changes in his life…now. Too bad the plans for acquiring a radio station didn’t include a contract. Now he’s out of a job, out of a radio station, and out of prospects.
While his life is in flux, at least he can help Merritt steady hers, or will he rush in and overstep …again?
Will the sparks flying between these two opposites lead to a happily-ever-after or heartbreak for both?

Cold watermelon (with just a hint of salt) and slurp the juice that’s left in the bowl!!! Yummy!

I drink the juice, too, but no salt for me on watermelon! We have one in the refrigerator almost every week of summer. My favorite! Thank you for replying, Betsy!
