In the Bible God often spoke to people via dreams revealing prophecies of future events, warnings and guidance.
But could he also deliver inspiration?
I will not attempt to speak for God, but I wonder if he chose such a route to inspire me to write my next release The Bonds of Tradition.
One night as a young bride I had a dream that I was back in high school; more specifically, I was in my band class when a young prince with dark hair and blue eyes showed up and demanded I leave with him. Why? Because I was destined to be his bride. I then woke up, but the dream didn’t leave me.
Questions filled my mind.
Who was this young man? Why did he demand I become his bride. I immediately started making up plotlines, and characters in my head. I then decided to pull up a blank computer file and put my fingers to the keys and let my story flow. I imagined what it would be like for a young American girl to be forced to live in an Eastern European country with overt Patriarchal values. Would she like it? How would she feel about being forced to marry a prince she barely knew? I imagined she would be ambitious, career oriented and demand she be treated as an equal with men. I also believed she wouldn’t fit in with her new peers. But it would be this spark, this strength that would draw the young prince to her.
As soon as my fingers touched the keyboard, words poured through me and the prologue for The Bonds of Tradition was born. A few months later I had the first draft completed.
If I had never had that dream I doubt I would have written this novel. The first stories I wrote before it all dealt with much darker themes of abuse, power and control.
So who knows. Maybe God did deliver this story to me for His purpose. And maybe my little love story will bring someone to Him or closer. Only He knows.
