A Clearly Romantic Gesture by Keli Gwyn
Are you good about keeping your windshield clean?
I confess I’m not. In my defense, I drive a truck. Since I’m only five foot two, I have to drag out a step stool in order to reach the top half of my SportTrac, making the task of washing the windshield an undertaking.
Gwynly (aka Carl) knows how much I dislike a dirty windshield and what a pain it is for me to wash mine. Since he’s got a foot on me and doesn’t require a step stool, he’ll often clean my windshield for me as a surprise. Yup. He knows how to make me happy.
One day my guy took his generous gesture to a new level. I awoke to find the cute critter we use to give each other messages sitting on my place mat bearing a note.
The note read, “Buggly says, ‘Please sit in your truck to read your morning note there.'”
I smiled, being fairly certain a clean windshield awaited me.
Sure enough, when I headed downstairs to leave for my Curves workout and climbed into the driver’s seat, I found a note taped to my steering wheel.
The note read: “Wifely, I cleaned your windshield so you can clearly see, ‘I love you.’ C”
Once again, I smiled. When I removed that note, looked through the sparkly clean glass and read the unexpected note taped to the storage drawers in front of my truck, I burst out laughing.
Gwynly had taken his kindness to a whole new level, playing with words the way I like. Seeing “I love you” in those bright red letters made my day.
I told Gwynly not to expect that note to disappear anytime soon. Every time I see it, I’m reminded of his romantic gesture and am filled with gratitude for the great guy I have.

my daughter knows how much it hurts me to mo[p our huge kitchen so she will mop the kitchen for me to show her love!
Shelia, an act of service done on our behalf is a special gift, isn’t it? That’s how my husband likes to show his love. I’ve learned to appreciate his gestures as such, even though my love language is words. When he combines the two, such as he did the day I blogged about here, he melts my heart.
I am a stay at home Mom of 12. My husband works and is usually gone 14 hours a day with travel time included. He knows how tired I can be with taking care of them and house work all day. When he comes home he will do chores and take care of whatever the kids need. He is my Super Hero !
Keli, I love the fact that your husband does these sweet, romantic things to show his love for you – and what a beautiful handwriting he has. I don’t have a husband, but your post reminds me of the many touching, sweet notes and cards my mother sends me – in appreciation of the things I do for her. Especially meaningful to me now as she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and probably too soon will come the day when she is no longer able to write, or perhaps even recognize me.
