- What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
I once made a gourmet meal for Valentine’s Day and for dessert I made a heart shaped pan sized chocolate chip cookie.
- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
This is going to sound odd but we have a little crepe and coffee shop that has a balcony over a creek in the back of the store with cute tables and pretty potted plants. Usually we go early enough in the morning so we get the balcony to ourselves. It’s one of my absolute favorite places to go with him and I think it’s romantic. Once we went to an Italian restaurant in Sunriver, OR. At the time it was the most expensive meal we’d ever had. The setting was Tuscan and the lights were dimmed. In the traditional use of the word romantic, this was probably the most romantic setting we’ve shared.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?
Because I can no longer have gluten, our choices are limited, but there is a little Mediterranean style restaurant that I make us reservations for if we want a romantic evening out—even if the dining room is empty, they won’t seat you without a reservation. There are far more romantic places where we live, but for me it’s the best we can do.
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
Early on in our marriage my husband bought me a really pretty diamond ring. It’s the only piece of jewelry he’s ever bought me on his own besides my engagement and wedding rings.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic vacation destination?
Two places come to mind but they are more family destinations. Sunriver, OR and Disney World. Now before you laugh, there are wonderful ways to make Disney World romantic for a couple. The last time we were there we went miniature golfing which was super fun. We also went to lots of restaurants—Disney is awesome about preparing safe gluten free meals. I think for me, anything outside the norm is kind of romantic and going to Disney World is very much outside our norm since we’ve only been there twice in our lives.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
When he does the dishes. LOL It really is the simple things, especially when you’ve been married for 29 years.
- Who is most romantic, you or your spouse?
Me for sure. He’s simply not a romantic, but that’s okay.

Question for Readers: Do you, a family member, or someone you know have a health condition that limits what you can be eaten? How do you or they work around it and enjoy eating out?
Come back August 20th for Tara Johnson!
Shelia Hall says
my daughter is lactose intolerant and we just ask before we order anything out.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I’m lactose intolerant too. I generally don’t bother trying to avoid it when I eat out though since the consequences for me don’t even come close to the reaction I have to gluten. LOL it’s like the lesser of the two evils for me, but I do avoid it as much as possible.
MJSH says
One of my daughters has a dairy and tree nut allergy and my son has a peanut/tree nut allergy so we’re very careful when we dine out. Disney World is superb in accommodating us 🙂
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Disney properties are the best when it comes to food allergies!
