- What is the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your husband?
My husband is a huge fan of the TV show, Dallas. I mean a rabid fan as in watching the series so much, he can recite whole scenes. About fifteen years ago, I read that they were going to have the yearly Ewing barbeque at Southfork Ranch outside of Dallas, Texas. Without Danny knowing anything about it, I bought us two tickets as well as airfare and hotel for his fiftieth birthday. He was beside himself! Not only were we interviewed for the BBC, we met the owner of the ranch who took an instant liking to us and gave us a private tour of the house. By the end of the night, Danny had met everyone on the show and even served as Patrick Duffy’s bodyguard! The man was in Dallas heaven!
- Where did you and your spouse go on your honeymoon?
Danny and I went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Danny was working at his first job after college, and I was still in nursing school, so we didn’t have two dollars to rub together. But it was wonderful just being with him.
- What is the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?
Our thirty-year anniversary was in 2013 and it had been a rough year for us. A renter had trashed the house we’d left when we’d had to move for a job, and after several months, we lost our house in foreclosure. Things were very tight, but Danny didn’t want our anniversary to go by without making a big deal of it. One evening at dinner, he handed me an envelope with tickets to London as well as a week in a lovely hotel near Hyde Park. He had turned in all his airline miles and hotel points to get us to England for a week because he knew how much I loved it. It was a fantastic trip!
- Who said I love you first, you or him?
I think it was a tie! We both knew very early in our relationship that we were meant for each other. But I’m not sure who said the words first. For me, it’s more important that we’re still saying those words to each other almost forty years later.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
I love to watch my husband play with our grandsons. He’s always felt awkward around babies but I love watching him cradling the boys, holding them so protectively yet with a gentle touch. And the boys love him so much. They’re always ready to spend time with their Pop Pop.
- When did your spouse know that you were the one?
We talked about this just last week! I knew it was early in our relationship, but he surprised me. Here’s what he told me: I’d decided it was time I settled down and started looking for someone I could share my life with. I wanted a Christian girl who shared my beliefs, but I wasn’t going to church at the time so the first thing I needed to do was find a church. I drove around the area around school (he was in college at the time) when I found the church where I met you. For me, it was that first date. We had so many things in common and shared the same goals. Though I wouldn’t call it love then, I knew you were the one.

About the book – On My Honor:
A Girl Scout Troop Joins the Battle of the Atlantic
Full of intrigue, adventure, and romance, this new series celebrates the unsung heroes—the heroines of WWII.
Ginny Mathis was finished with nursing school and had no intention of staying rooted in the Outer Banks—then war broke out. With her father away, she feels duty-bound to stay and help her mother and younger sister. While working as a clerk for the Oregon Inlet ferry, naval officers ask Ginny and others to be watchful for German U-boats reportedly spotted in the area. So to help occupy her teenage sister, Ginny enlists the Girl Scout troop she leads to help watch for suspicious activity along the coast.
Timothy Elliott is no stranger to death. As a British reporter working with the M-6, he’s numb to the losses of war after two years of fighting the Germans. Maybe that’s why he volunteered for this mission—to connect with an ex-German naval officer who stole the Furor’s battle plan for the Atlantic war. When the boat giving him passage to New York is bombed near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Tim is thrown from the boat and wakes up in the care of a group of young girls.
Ginny follows her sneaky sister on a clandestine mission and discovers the shipwreck victim. Ginny knows she must take charge, but is this man the enemy, or does he hold secrets that could turn the tide of the Battle of the Atlantic in the allies’ favor?

Come back Jan 10th for Heather Greer!
Hi Patty, good to have you here.
Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I love learning what life was like in different time periods.
Hi Heather. The more I learn about historical time periods, the happier I am I didn’t live back then. I like electricity. And air conditioning.
I have a winner! Heather Thompson won the drawing. I appreciate Patty for being my guest and everyone else for stopping by.
