Office and inspiration
Just last year I got my own writing area complete with a new desk. My husband calls it my writing hole because it is in the back of the house in the corner of a spare bedroom. That’s exactly the way I like it. I can go there and get into my writing or editing world.
A framed quote is on the wall right above where my laptop sits. It states: “Life is God’s novel; Let Him write it.” Below that quote is a collage containing pictures of my hubby and me. My educational accomplishments are also on the wall: My Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education. I was recently able to add my Selah Award plaque.
My desk is L-shaped which is helpful for me personally. I can turn one way and work on my laptop then another to write by hand. Of course, I haven’t composed all of my stories at my desk. On vacation at the beach, in the car, in the kitchen making supper – these are all places I have scribbled first drafts.
I suppose I have conditioned and trained myself to write romance from the many examples I’ve read and seen. I confess, I am a sucker for any Christian romance or Hallmark movie. And, of course, my hubby still makes me swoon even after 25 years of marriage. A nice walk on the beach at sunset with my honey inspires my romantical side (romantical is an officially coined word at the Mowery house).

Paula is a pastor’s wife and mom to a college student. She homeschooled her daughter through all twelve years, and they both lived to tell about it. Before educating her daughter at home, she was an English teacher in public school.

My hobby is scrapbooking – no I don’t have my own workspace to do it – I usually spread out all over the kitchen table 🙂
I have a couple different hobbies & one is scrapbooking. I have a large Master bedroom, so I placed a glass table that was being unused, into a corner and turned it into a scrapping desk. Now, if I can just keep it clear enough to work on, instead of keep adding small stacks of “these would make good additions to my travels to ____” on each return trip (I travel somewhere different, each month with my hubby) & the next obstacle is to stay home long enough to work on scrapping. 😉
Another hobby for me is I’m an aspiring writer. My “desk” for that is my iPad. Because I travel all the time with my hubby for his work, I never know where I will be, so, if I write on my iPad, I can write where ever I happen to be–on an airplane, in a hotel room, on a beach or in a park. I feel very blessed to be able to see such wonderful places and still be able to persue my writing.

FYI–while I was home recently, I was able to go enjoy lunch out with a friend I hadn’t seen for several years, and we decided to go to a Chinese Restaurant (interesting choice, since we were about to leave for Hong Kong, with a bit of Beijing thrown in. Anyway, I was sharing with her about how I was venturing into writing & she was excited for me. At the end of our lunch, we got the typical “Fortune Cookies” and I was surprised to read mine. “You are ambitious and will make a name for yourself”. My friend was excited and said it was perfect for me & that I should place it near where I write. So, I taped it to the top of my iPad…”my writing desk”.
I love to bake and read
As I get older, life seems to get busier. Not much time for hobbies. Every once in a while I will do a small cross stitching project and I just sit on the couch and do that… other than that reading is my hobby and I can do that anywhere!
My passion is sharing the Lord, creating notebooks of art work that grandchildren did and photo books for 4 grandchildren. Each child has their own notebook of drawings. As a surprise for my adult children I am creating notebooks of their drawing, accomplishments up through college. Each a photo book. This will be a surprise for them, their spouses and children. My goal is to be finish with most before first weekend in October. My real passion was painting. I have new paints, canvas, my brush collection all sitting in knee area of my desk. When right shoulder replacement heals completely and some other health problems get straightened out. It is all right there handy for me to try again. I have a portfolio of a lot of printed my graphic art projects and photo book of art. Have photo book, because if you wanted to show somewhere you had to present photos to a jury. I was selected to show art at the World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN. I have the acceptance papers, but I did not show. The fee was $2000. A lot of people have told me I need to write about my life, my husband has been the most encouraging. It has been filled with miracles, divine intervention and a lot of hurt. Please forgive any miss wording or misspelling, right shoulder is healing and am working with Christian counselor on my shattered brain from March of this year and then my whole life. It is and has been a journey made possible by God and Jesus Christ. Dianne
Besides reading, I love to sew and make cards, but with children around all the time,
there’s no room to have a dedicated workspace.
I do crafty things. Sew home decor, make vases, and memory boards. Countless things and I usually do my crafting in the middle of the living room floor.
