How I met my husband…
I was twenty years old and thought I knew where my life was headed. I had everything all planned out. But then I took an acting class with my best friend from work and my world was turned upside down, in a good way. I remember the first day of class, the instructor had us sit in a circle and go around the room to introduce ourselves. Directly across from me sat this dark haired, dark eyed guy who looked like trouble. That was my first impression of the man I would one day marry.
As class went on over the next few months, he and I sat on opposite sides of the room. Me sitting in the front row, and him sitting in the back row, where he’d heckle the teacher. I have to admit, he was funny and would make the whole class laugh. I’m not sure the instructor was as amused.
With each ‘acting lesson’ we had to pair up with someone new to do a scene with. One day I decided I was going to see if this guy was really trouble or was it all an act. I gathered my nerve and approached him where he sat on the railing outside of the classroom. I stood in front of him and asked if he’d like to do the next scene with me. He stared at me for a moment, glanced around and behind him, then said, “Are you talking to me?”
Well, duh. I repeated the question and he hopped off the railing. I thought uh-oh as I stepped back. What had I gotten myself into?
He finally said, “Sure. Why not?”
Great. So much enthusiasm. Later, he told me he was scared spit-less because he didn’t think I’d like him once I got to know him. Ha! We dated for three years and in May we’re celebrating our thirtieth wedding anniversary and this summer we’re taking a celebratory two week trip to Ireland and Scotland.
I can’t say it has been a smooth ride the whole time. More like Space Mountain and It’s a Small World rolled into one wild adventure.
But I’ve never regretted getting up the nerve to talk to the proverbial bad boy. Is it any wonder I write romance?

Question for Readers: In what ways has fear kept you from something that you really wanted to do or someone you really wanted to talk to?
Come back April 17th for Stacy Monson!
Fear has kept me from reaching out to strangers with Christ’s love when it was so obvious they needed it that instant.
Fear has kept me from speaking the truth to both Christians and non-Christians. Fear of rejection and ridicule – thank God that He is full of mercy and grace towards me!
Fear has kept me from making friends because I feared rejection
From making friends for fear of rejection.
