Shannon here: Farm Lit author, Valerie Comer shares insight into her characters’ romance from her latest release, Wild Mint Tea. Comment on this post to enter the drawing for a digital copy in Kindle or epub format. Deadline: March 15th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Valerie:
- Do your hero and heroine have a favorite song?
Noel and Claire don’t have a favorite romantic song, but there is a hymn that keeps cropping up throughout the story: “This World is Not My Home.” Interestingly, it seems to mean something different to each of them.
- What’s the most romantic present your hero ever bought your heroine?
Noel thinks everything he does is romantic! But his most romantic gift is a toss-up between the morel mushrooms he found in the wild—and cooked for Claire—and a set of handmade knives he bought for his favorite chef.
- What is your heroine’s favorite romantic vacation destination?
Claire is all about staying home. She did live in Paris for a while about eight years ago, but she is so over travel. If she never leaves Green Acres Farm again as long as she lives, she’ll die happy. Of course, she said that in a weak moment when she wasn’t considering the possibility of marriage. Maybe she can send her roommates away from the farm during her honeymoon? Hmm…
- What is your hero’s favorite romantic vacation destination?
Noel loves to travel. You could even say he lives to travel. It’s one of the reasons he thrives on owning Enterprising Reforestation—he makes good money all summer and plays hard in the tropics all winter. Romantic destinations haven’t been on his mind before, though. Until now, it’s been all about snorkeling, skydiving, and climbing volcanoes. Can you see any conflicts arising here?
- What simple gesture does your hero do that melts your heroine every time?
Noel’s a physical person but keeps himself in check. His oft-repeated gesture is to slide his fingers down Claire’s cheek.
- What simple gesture does your heroine do that melts your hero every time?
Claire takes life seriously. When Noel can get a full laugh out of her, it proves she’s relaxing with him. The result? He craves even more of them.
- Who is most romantic, your hero or your heroine?
Noel, hands down. He lives life with gusto and confidence—except when the skeleton in his closet raises its head. He’s always thinking of little ways to bring a smile to Claire’s face. And, a few times, he comes up with much bigger ways.
- If your hero and heroine end up married, where will they go on their honeymoon?
This is the question we all want the answer to! Sorry, I can’t give the answer to this one away. 😉

About the book – Wild Mint Tea:
She’s rooted deep. He flies free.
Local-foods chef Claire Halford envisions turning Green Acres Farm into an event destination. Weddings prove trickier than she imagined when the first one comes with a ruggedly handsome brother-of-the-bride, who has everything but a fixed address. Oh, and faith in God.
Noel Kenzie loves the freedom his reforestation company affords him. Why worry about deep stuff like God and commitment when he’s in his prime? Except there’s a woman who might make it worth giving up his wings…and digging in some roots. If he dares.
