Love at First Sight by Caryl McAdoo:
Don’t you love stories where one person knows immediately another will be their spouse? I discovered long after we were married that my husband told his mother after our second date, he’d met the girl he was going to marry. We were sixteen then and celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary this past June.
My grandson approached the parents of his now-wife before he ever even started dating their daughter—she was dating someone else at the time—that he was going to marry her, and sure enough he did! They presented me with my first McAdoo Great-grandsugar girlie-girl this past November, Waylen Alyse.
Such as it is with hero Thomas Baldwin in my newest release TEXAS MY TEXAS, book two in the Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga! He spotted the beautiful Gabrielle and know in that moment, she was the one he wanted to marry, but her heart longed for another.
Holding fast to a fantasy the father of her son loved her and would show-up any day, she spurned Thomas’ every effort to woo her—even though the baby-daddy scoundrel had hit the road as soon as he found out she was in a family way. That happened last year in Tennessee (GONE TO TEXAS, book one) just before her Pap drug her off to a new life in the Republic of Texas!
Men who know that they know “she’s the one” don’t sway easily, and Thomas proved no exception! No matter how rude or mean Gabby was to him, he showered her with mercy and grace—showing her the love of Christ again and again, loving her more than his own self.
Excerpt: (from TEXAS MY TEXAS, Gabrielle’s Point of View)
The man who’d been trying to win a kind word acted like he loved her calling him dear. Didn’t he know she was only play-acting? Could he not tell the smile she’d been wearing was faker than a four-dollar bill?
“Sounds like a great machine.” He reached over and patted her hand. “If you want it, my darling, it’d be fine with me.” He glanced over to his friend. “If the price is right.”
Her heart beat faster than a jack rabbit with a coyote on its tail. Her? With a sewing machine. She’d never have thought it would ever be, yet Thomas said she could have it if she wanted it, like it wasn’t any more than a two-cent caramel.
If the price was right.
Oh, Lord, let the cost be reasonable. Please. She turned toward Mon.
“What did he want for it?”
“My mule, but I only laughed, and he didn’t counter. You have any idea what’s it worth?”
“If it works right, a body is supposed to be able to do ten times the work over hand sewing. So, in the time it takes me to do one dress, I could finish ten using a machine like the one I saw.”
“Well now. Having a machine like that would make it pretty valuable.”
Pap tossed his hat over his boot toe. “I got a gelding you could take. A good horse is worth more than a mule in my
book.”
Reviewer’s comments on Thomas Baldwin: “The hero, Thomas, is such a likable, long-suffering man,” “I was
amazed that Thomas Baldwin had patience with her, as long as it took,” and “Thomas Baldwin was my favorite character. What a sweet, godly man. Maybe I loved him so much because he reminds me of my husband. Patient, gentle, kind. Did I say patient? He had to be, because he was dealing with Gabrielle.”

About the book – Texas My Texas: He who puts his trust in God will possess the land and inherit the blessings.
Scripture tells a husband to love his wife, but what if she loves the memory of a dead man? Lured to the Texas frontier by more free land than they could ever buy, four families struggle to carve a home and a living out of the wilderness. And though love isn’t always easy coming, like bees to sweet flowers, a neighbor and his partner swoop in hoping to steal the hearts of the clan’s two young beauties. Will their infants spoil the ointment? Wild animals, Indians on the warpath, and living hand-to-mouth never make it easy, but my oh my—Texas my Texas! What a land!

Question for Readers: Do you know of a Love-at-First-Sight story? Do you believe the concept is really true, or just an initial attraction that blooms?

Linda Orr says
I think if you are following your heart (your morals and values), then it is true.
Caryl McAdoo says
Amen, Linda! I think I fell in love with Ron’s last name before I fell for him 🙂 At 16 I thought “McAdoo” was about the cutest name I’d heard. I’ve loved being a McAdoo. My daughter assures me it’s because I didn’t grow up with it 🙂
Pam says
My dad fell in love with my mom when she was 12 and he was 15. He would ride his horse every night after he did his evening chores 16 miles to go see mom for a couple of hours than turn around and make the trip back. He did this for 4 years until he went into the service and he married mom when she was 16, and he was 19. mom’s mom had to sign for mom to marry daddy. They were married for 60 yr. when mom died.
Caryl McAdoo says
What a sweet story! It seems the MEN are more aware of that “love at first sight”. DO you think that’s true? Thank you for sharing. Blessings!
Caryl McAdoo says
