Shannon here: Cindy Bonds shares the theme of waiting in her latest Romantic Suspense, Remains. Comment or answer the question in this post to enter the drawing for a print copy. Deadline: July 6th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Cindy:
There are a few different themes running through my new novel, Remains. It’s hard to just pick one! But the struggle of waiting seems to be pulsing through each aspect so I think that’s the one I’ll focus on here.
Waiting is very difficult for me. I’ve never been described as one with the virtue of patience–and this was before the time of high-speed everything. The small computer we had growing up didn’t even have dial-up, just a black screen with a green cursor. And on occasion, Frogger.
But as each protagonist’s backstory unfolds in this novel, patience unravels for one and is embraced by the other.
Greer Bennett has moved from home to home, following her mother and never letting go of the fact her earthly father is absent. As details of his absence follow her career, she shifts focus and relents acceptance that she may never know what happened. But what she does know is that God fulfilled her life by becoming the father she never had, leading and guiding her through the tough times.
Gage Sullivan was literally off fighting battles when his sister disappeared. The man he deemed responsible was never arrested and his life spiraled as he considered himself responsible. In his anger, he put himself in harm’s way, resigned to death if that’s what it took to relent the guilt. But as he begins to work with Greer to uncover answers, he finds a way to develop trust in Greer and patience on the road to justice.
Patience is one of the fruits of the Spirit, often interchanged with the word, longsuffering. Longsuffering is a quality that allows a person to bear adversity, to be able to wait on the will of God. The ability to wait–oftentimes is the most frustrating and painful way–for God’s will to prevail is a challenge for the most devoted Christ followers.
As Greer accepts the painful path that led to her career, Gage fights against the shift. He lived for the chaos of his former job, a career that delivered swift justice on those guilty. And now, as he moves on to a job that allows time to rest, to have a life outside of work, the pull of revenge on the man responsible becomes overwhelming.
God’s will and especially His timing are rarely our own! But that’s why He offers us His Holy Spirit to help guide and sustain us in the wait.
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Question for Readers: Who is the most patient person you know? In what ways are they patient?

About the book – Remains (Releases July 30th):
Digging deeper will put them in the killer’s crosshairs.
Detective Greer Bennett is not happy the feds are crashing her crime scene. But her instincts are telling her there’s more to the story than some whitewashed bones sticking up from an unmarked grave.
Now that Homeland Agent Gage Sullivan has found his sister’s body, he can prosecute the man responsible. But he’ll have to find a way to play nice with the detective in charge of the case. And she’s not eager to engage.
As they investigate, the body count rises and the clues aren’t giving them the answers they need. If they are to survive, the trust Greer’s so unwilling to relent will have to come or the killer will add two more victims to his count–Greer and Gage.

The most patient person I’ve met was also the godliest–my great-grandmother. I saw her mistreated, not appreciated, but she glowed w/ the joy and presence of the Lord. As the oldest great-grandchild, I got to spend lots of treasured time w/ her. Her example taught me more than she will ever know. I thank God for that grounding example and experience–Katie Nils Prosch was such a blessing and taught me so much.

What an awesome example of Godliness! I do think without God’s help our ability to accept trials and be patient with others would be more than difficult. Thanks for commenting!

I’m not sure who is the most patient person that I know. It sounds like a really interesting book. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Diana! Hope you enjoy my novel!

My twin sister is the most patient person I know. She has been a teacher for over 30 years and is still going strong. She also is a caregiver for our mother who is now in a wheelchair. I admire how selfless she is. Neither are easy things to do.
