The winner may choose print or digital. Comment on this post to enter. Deadline: July 1st, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Debbi:
Last year was challenging, to say the least. We sold our beloved home in the country and moved four miles into a rental house in town. Our two boys already had their own apartments, but our twenty-one-year-old daughter still lived with us, and the move was especially traumatic for her. She camped out in the empty house for a week before we closed on the sale.
Although God miraculously provided the perfect rental house (a story for another time), we all grieved to some extent. I especially felt the loss of my office, which had been decorated in my favorite teal and pink colors and showcased all of my favorite possessions, including Grandma Campbell’s pink crystal deer and Grandma Flynn’s turquoise music box. I moved from a large, 12 x 15 room with an expansive view of the farmer’s fields to a 10 x 10 bedroom office with a small window facing the busy street.
I was contracted to write the third book in my Justice, Montana series, and I needed a new office-pronto! I’d heard about some authors who decorated their offices with posters of their book’s location. Since I love all things ‘northwest,’ I already had a nice collection of items, although I had never done an entire room in that theme. But now it was time.
My main treasure was a painting that my husband, Phil, and I bought as newlyweds. I could get lost in that painting with its snow-covered trees and mountains. It has traveled with us for forty-five years, and every time I look at it, I see those two young kids, newly in love, making their first decorating decision together.
The second treasure is a plush bear rug that Phil bought me when we visited my brothers in northern Minnesota.
I’d collected a few other items over the years, and now it was time to create my mountain hideaway.
I’d heard of method actors, so now I would become a method writer, fully immersed in the setting of my books. When we first moved in, I lamented the dark taupe color of the office walls, but I soon realized it provided the perfect backdrop for my northwoods theme.
I enjoyed searching online for more décor and was especially excited to find wall stickers that featured pine trees, bears, moose, and more. My only problem was knowing where to stop! I even found this beautiful desk pad that literally places my laptop in the middle of a forest.
The final touch was a frame that showcases the covers of my first four books of the series.
As the room came together, I realized that decorating my mountain hideaway had provided a welcome distraction from the stress and pain of leaving the home where we raised our children. My cozy office offered a fresh beginning, inspiring me to start writing again. I thoroughly enjoyed writing November Knight, which will be released in late November 2023, and I look forward to continuing Jess and Cole’s story in December Dreams and January Justice.
It’s time for new adventures!
I am so excited about my new office. I made an animoto video—Enjoy!

I live in an apartment so I don’t have a favorite room.
DEBBI MIGIT says
Yes, I’ve lived in a number of apartments, too. Favorite rooms, not so much, but I did have favorite windows 🙂

My kitchen
DEBBI MIGIT says
Hi Ruth,
You must love to cook and /or bake. My husband Phil does the cooking here, so the kitchen is only my favorite room when he is in there creating! LOL

Hey Debbi,
Glad to have you. I love your office and all the pictures. My office is seashells because I love them and they inspire me. My favorite room is the sunroom next to my office. It has an old 90’s pastel flowered couch and wingback recliners. It’s comfy and soothing since pastels are my favorite. I have a coffee table with the top that lifts up for eating. But I used it for jigsaw puzzles. There’s a TV in there, so I watch GAC Family romance movies, do puzzles, or just stare out the wall of windows. I also do my editing jobs out there on my laptop and reserve my office and desk for writing.
DEBBI MIGIT says
That room sounds so relaxing! I miss my wall of windows-soak in the views!

My Sun room has windows on 3 sides and I can see the flowers and pond/fountain. I hear the birds chirping and possibly see a hummingbird enjoying my honeysuckle. Its there especially for him/her. I have my library/books along with many plants and occasionally I play good music…but the real happiness comes from the quiet and the realization that God is present
DEBBI MIGIT says
What a peaceful place to enjoy God’s creation!

I guess my favorite room to read CF RS is my kitchen–Romantic Suspense is my preferred genre! I can “keep an eye on” my food cooking on the stove nearby (when I’m cooking), and still get some reading time in 🙂 Or, I can drink my tea at my table, as I read a print CF book. . . When I’m done with “chores,” I can continue reading my CF book at the kitchen table, which I look forward to every day. I would love to win print copies, especially since Debbi Migit is a new-to-me author; however, her books look really intriguing! Thanks for the opportunity! God bless!
DEBBI MIGIT says
Hi Lual,
Yes, I always have a book ‘at hand’ when I cook! All those precious minutes, waiting for something to need stirring can be used for reading. Of course that may or may not be why I accidentally dredged cube steak in powdered sugar instead of flour. LOL

My favorite room is our living room where one of the walls and our shelves are full of photos of my family. Thank you for the chance. Have a great weekend.
DEBBI MIGIT says
Hi Alicia,
That makes perfect sense to me! Lately I’m trying to take more candid pics of the people I love. They are priceless!

Yes, so do I. Cooking not so much. LOL
