Comment on any post dated April 1 – 5 to get your name in the drawing. Deadline: April 13th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Elizabeth:
Tim isn’t prone to grand and sweeping romantic gestures. I’m actually fine with that – I love to read (and write) about the grand gesture, but I’m ok without too many of them in my life.
For my 25th birthday, I couldn’t come up with anything that I wanted. It was driving Tim nuts that I couldn’t give him any ideas. So finally, I gave him the names of a few books that I’d been thinking of trying out. I figured he’d choose one or two and all would be well.
On my birthday, I came home from work and found a rectangular package in the middle of the floor. It had a big ‘H’ written on it. About three feet away was another. This one had an ‘A’. Looking past that, I saw a trail of packages that turned the corner and headed up the stairs.
I followed them up, unwrapping book after book after book until I got to our room and found a heart of books on the bed. In all, there were 25 books, spelling out “Happy birthday! I love you, Beth.” He’d gotten every book I suggested plus the entire series of those authors when I’d only put the first one down.
It might not sound romantic to you, but the idea that he’d take the time to track down all those books (2 were out of print) and wrap them up was incredibly romantic to me. And his little book trail made it even more special.
Plus, well, books are always a good idea.

Patty – it is definitely a touchy subject – I hope that I handled it in a way that people find approachable, even if it’s one they personally aren’t comfortable with.
Kay – He’s definitely a keeper! 🙂 I will say he’s glad that I love my Kindle now though – I can keep buying books (or getting them) and we’re not as close to being buried under them as we used to be. 🙂

Deborah – He’s romantic, just not necessarily in the classical sense. But I’m ok with that – he’s pretty creative when he decides to go all out. Thanks for stopping by!
