Here’s Heidi:
My husband and I attended a foster care meeting. We had tried surgery and fertility treatments. We
decided to stop treatment. We were certified to adopt, and this was a kick-off meeting for foster care. Earlier that day, I mentioned to a coworker I had gained weight. We had weight loss contests at work, and my friend teased I could be pregnant.
After the meeting, I resigned myself that it might takes years to adopt, but God would provide a child in His timing. My husband went to get Chipotle. I decided I might as well take a pregnancy test. I’d done this many, many times before. The test was positive. I tried checking again, with a second, more expensive test. Same result.
I texted my husband a picture of the positive test results. He was flabbergasted but excited. I have endometriosis, and we figured we probably wouldn’t have kids naturally. Later, I went on to have a healthy baby boy. Six months after the birth of my son, we were about to leave for a Thanksgiving dinner with family, and I felt odd. I walked by a heater in our house and felt nauseous. I tested again, and months later, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Excerpt:
He rose and followed her, came up behind her. He touched her shoulder, and she turned and jerked away. “I can handle myself. I don’t need you, or Jordan, … or even Patrick to look after me. I’m fine!”
“Yes, you are capable.”
“And another thing …” She raised her hand to point at him, but then her jaw dropped and she stopped. “Wait, you agree with me?”
“Yeah. Now can you pack a bag, please? I need you to go with me.”
She leaned in closer, locked eyes.
His heart beat faster. Their lips were close. Really close. Should he kiss her? Did she want him to?
Question for Readers: How did you tell your spouse your family was expanding? Or have you fostered or adopted a child?

About the book – Gazing into Darkness (Queen City Heroes – Book 1):
Instead of moving closer to his girlfriend, Chance McPherson gets dumped and relocated to Cincinnati—farther from his dreams and closer to his shameful past. Stacey Sanderson is excited to finally secure a role in law enforcement, like the rest of her family, especially as an EPA CID agent, where she can protect God’s creation.
On the job, Stacey’s perfectionism and faith rub Chance the wrong way, while his antics and wisecracks irritate Stacey. When federal employees who worked an old case with Stacey start dying, Chance becomes concerned, and not just because Stacey is his partner. Stacey senses a closeness between them but has vowed not to get involved with men in law enforcement and especially not someone who doesn’t share her faith.
The anniversary of the case is creeping closer. Time is running out. Can Chance and Stacey stop the person who is out to kill her before it’s too late?

Come back Aug 28th for Linda Shenton Matchett!

We have four kiddos and for the life of me I do not remember how I broke the news lol
Our #3 and #4 were a surprise babies!
I fabric painted a plain white T-shirt for our 2-year-old son. It read I’m the BIG BROTHER! I invited my own youngest brother over so that he could eat with our son in the living room. I set up a table and are still under construction bedroom and cooked baby back ribs, baby carrots and baby peas. I gave my husband a gift with a card decorated in Winnie the Pooh and I wrote a little poem about Tigger not being the only one! Inside the box was the positive pregnancy test. Sadly, when I was 10 weeks along, this precious little one went home to be with the Lord. Heaven is so much sweeter knowing that this one as well as later another one are there waiting for me to be introduced by our Lord Jesus Christ when he calls me home. Our four blessings here on Earth, are very very dear and precious to me and my husband!
He had a photo calendar made of all our kids and on the month we were expecting, he let them know.
For our first, we were on vacation and I thought I was but we purposely waited until we got home to test, We had been trying so it wasn’t a shock. And, boom, I was! For our second, again we had been trying so it wasn’t a shock and I think I just thought I might be and then we tested. No big reveals or surpises. Boring I guess, lol!
I didn’t do anything exciting, I just told him.
My 3 are all adults now and I think we just told family — nothing too over-the-top was done at that time! I do love your story of your two unexpected/miracle babies!
I have a winner! Leela won the drawing. I appreciate Heidi for being my guest and everyone else for stopping by.
