Shannon here: Aspiring Contemporary Romance author, Jessica Everingham gives insight into her ideal mate of the future. All comments will go into the drawing for Carole Brown’s book and I’ll throw in a copy of one of my books, winner’s choice of the ones I have on hand. Deadline: June 28th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Jessica:
- Are you open to your own romance?
Hmmm. The obvious answer is yes; I’m almost 23 and single so to say I’m open to romance is pretty much a given.
BUT I’m also really busy, particularly with writing my books, and I’m enjoying carving out my own life as an adult without having to worry about someone else. I don’t know when I’d have the time to fit a boyfriend in. (Though if the right one came along, I’m sure I’d work out something.)
So I’m happy for it to be sometime in the future, but it doesn’t have to be tomorrow.
- What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?
The top quality I look for is someone who seeks God, and will lead me to seek God more in my own life. Any guy with this quality, irrespective of his looks, instantly becomes attractive.
- What’s the number two quality you’d require in a mate?
I want someone I can trust. Not just trust to keep my secrets or be faithful, but someone whose opinions and judgment are really solid and trustworthy.
- What type of features are you attracted to?
This question could become incriminating sometime in the future… 😉
I know someone who always wanted to marry an African American, and the husband she ended up with is a skinny fair-skinned red head.
It lead to plenty of jokes 🙂
But in terms of personality features, I can be a deep thinker and serious sometimes, so I probably need someone who leans the other way to make life interesting. That said, it’s hard to find that combined with top qualities #1 and #2, but we’ll see what happens!
I also want someone that I can work well with as a team. Awesome teamwork is one of the main facets of the romance I’m writing in my work-in-progress, Hating Jeremy Walters.
- If you could order a carbon copy of an actor with the perfect character traits and beliefs for your mate, who would it be?
Okay, this is like asking what my favorite dessert is. I don’t have just one; I love them all.
My housemates and I drew up—for lack of a better name— a ‘Hot List’ of our favorite Hollywood men.
Those at the top of my list include:
Theo James (The character Four in Divergent makes me hyperventilate.)
Chris Hemsworth (The voice, the hair, need I say more?)
Zachary Levi (He topped this list for years simply because I looooved his character in Chuck.)
Okay, I’ll stop there, though there’s about 15 on the list 🙂
That said, I forget about a guy’s looks once I see his character. A hot guy can look ugly if he has a bad attitude, and an ordinary guy irresistible if he’s self-sacrificing. Zac Levi makes the list 100% because I loved the personality of his character in Chuck. If you watch the show, he is a gigantic nerd with terrible hair and clothes for the first three seasons. But he’s a sweetheart!
- What would be the best gift a potential mate could buy for you?
I’m not a huge ‘presents person’, but if my future hubby took me to New York or Chicago (as an Aussie, it’s on my bucket list to go to a big US city), I’d be pretty excited.
Come back June 23rd for Angie Brashear!

Hi Shelia, thanks! Glad you think so! I’m still writing it at the moment, but hopefully you’ll see my name out there one day. 🙂
