Shannon here: Amish Romance author, Kathleen Fuller shares insight into her real life romance, plus a chance to win a copy of her latest release, The Teacher’s Bride. Comment or answer the question at the end of the post to enter the drawing. Deadline: Dec 8th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Kathleen:
- What’s the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?
This is going to sound more practical than romantic, but James makes me breakfast almost every morning. The reason this is so romantic to me is because I can’t cook breakfast anymore due to my back issues (they flare up big time when I get up in the morning), and he always makes sure I have something to eat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
- What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
I’m the least romantic person on the planet, even though I write about romance. I don’t believe romance is limited to grand gestures, so I try to show my affection by doing things that he wants to do, even if they aren’t my thing. Like watching home improvement shows. I could probably build a house by now. I for sure could decorate one.
- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
Probably Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton, AR. We went there when we were dating, and we returned for the first time in twenty-five years last month. It’s so beautiful there, and we just loved it.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?
I feel like we’re failing this interview! J We don’t go to fancy restaurants, but lately we’ve liked TGIF. Anytime we get to share a meal together (that neither of us cooks) is romantic.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
He likes classic rock and I like pop and R&B, so “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees is one we both enjoy.
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
He chose my wedding ring on his own and it’s perfect—everything I always wanted. I still get compliments on it a quarter of a century later. It’s unique but not dated.
- What’s the most romantic present you ever bought your spouse?
I’d rather not say. 😉
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic vacation destination?
We went on our first cruise recently, and we’re hooked! I think anywhere a cruise ship goes will be our favorite. We do love the beach.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
Other than making me breakfast, it’s when we hold hands in the car. I love that.
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he was the one?
Thirty seconds. No joke, for me it was love at first sight.
- How soon after meeting you did your spouse know you were the one?
It took him a little longer—three months, I think.
- Who is most romantic, you or your spouse?
My spouse for sure.
- What is the most caring thing your spouse has ever done for you?
He does so many caring things, especially since I’m a cancer survivor and have had back problems for several years now. He’s my rock.
- What is the most caring thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
I support him no matter what and I let him know that regularly.
- Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
I did.
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
St. Petersburg, FL. We went to Epcot at Disneyworld and Busch Gardens in Tampa. It was so fun!

About the book – The Teacher’s Bride: Christian Ropp moves to Birch Creek to accept a teaching position in the rapidly growing Amish community. He’s determined to put the rambunctious school in order as well as check another task off his list: finding a wife. Of course, that would be much easier if women were like textbooks, straightforward and logical.
When an accident puts Christian out of commission, a new community member named Ruby Glick takes over his classroom. But Ruby’s exuberant teaching style clashes with Christian’s careful methods and he worries his students will never be the same.
With a track record of catastrophe, Ruby always feels too clumsy, too distracted, too . . . much. Desperate for a chance to prove that she can do more than make mistakes in her life, she throws herself into her new teaching position. But when Christian can’t seem to stay out of her way, she finds herself slipping into old, chaotic tendencies.
What she doesn’t anticipate is that Christian’s heart is slowly catching up with his mind—and she, too, must decide whether to follow logic or love.

My favorite romantic movie is “You’ve Got Mail” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. They do a great job in this movie. I think I have watched the movie dozens of times….I love Amish romance novels so can’t wait to read, The Teacher’s Bride (former teacher here).
call me odd for this but the love story in Forest Gump was an amazing analogy for the people of the time and their journey through life. Some went wild, some stayed true to the old ways. Jenny chased something to fill the hate and hurt in her but never found it in the fast and crazy, she found it in the arms of the man who had loved her despite anything she might have said, done or thought about him. He loved her similar to how God loves us, simply and completely. She finally got to a point where she was willing and able to accept that. It is sad that she died so shortly after. The prodigal son was a daughter this time, Forrest welcomed her with open arms and a celebration of life. We should all live to that goal.
I love the 80s romantic movies. I like clueless, valley girl, pretty in pink, and others that I can’t think of but I love them all.
