I’m so happy to be on Inkslinger again to share with you about my latest release Direct Threat. Unlike my own meet-cute with my husband, the characters in my book had a very eventful first meeting. I first noticed my husband in our college orientation group and the rest is history.
The meeting of the two former law enforcement officers in Direct Threat was rather eventful to say the least, lol. Let’s just say, I’m glad I met my husband under much tamer circumstances.
Carissa Jones and Marc Olsen unwittingly met during a job. They were both hired to protect a ten-year-old girl, but due to a miscommunication neither of them knew the other was working the same case. Here’s an excerpt from their meet-cute.
Excerpt from Direct Threat by Kimberly Rose Johnson:
She chased after him. “Hey, stop.”
He looked over his shoulder and stopped.
Unable to slow fast enough, Carissa sprinted headlong into the man’s backside. The force of the impact knocked him off balance. He tripped and their feet tangled. He fell, taking her with him. Oof. Air whooshed from her lungs. Pain shot up her arms as she collapsed onto his back.
Stunned, she didn’t move for a few seconds. “So sorry. I didn’t think you’d stop like that.” She scooted off of him. Why hadn’t she zigged or zagged?
He raised his head slightly then rolled over and stood. “You said to stop.” He rubbed his shoulder.
“True.” Had she injured him? He’d apparently managed to break their fall with his hands because his handsome face was unharmed. She watched her client round the corner at the end of the row.
He glanced toward the parking garage and sighed before turning back to her. “Are you okay?”
“Other than feeling a little foolish, I’m fine. I’m sorry about barreling into you. I really didn’t mean to cause you to fall.”
He waved off her apology. “Now that you have my attention, what did you want?”
She cleared her throat. “Oh. Uh…I thought you were someone else. Excuse me.” She darted in the direction of her car. If she hurried, she’d still be able to tail the Drummonds.

I am a sucker for Rhett and Scarlett from Gone with the wind
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I watched this movie over thirty years ago and for the life of me I can’t recall how they met. I think I might need to rewatch it, or least a portion of it. I don’t think I could sit through the entire movie. Anything over two hours challenges me.

I just quite recently discovered Becky Wade’s books with her Bradford Sisters series. And I think I LOVE every meet-cute she has in them. The other author I love for these is Bethany Turner. Some of hers are hilarious…lol! I think that’s probably my favorite scene in a book, I always look forward to them 🙂

I think of a meet cute from Pepper Basham. A guy crashes in to a girl with cupcakes in her hands! You can guess what happens. Her stories always have hilarious meets.
