Shannon here: Amish romance author, Laura V. Hilton shares insight into her fictional characters’ romance from her latest release, Promised to Another. Every time you comment on any post dated April 9th – 13th, your name goes in the drawing for a copy. Deadline: April 21st, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Laura:
- How soon after meeting the hero did the heroine know he was the one?
I noticed Joshua as soon as he arrived in town, but thought he was a player because he was taking all the other girls home from singings and didn’t seem to pay any attention to me.
- How soon after meeting the heroine did the hero know she was the one?
I liked Annie as soon as I met her, but she was Promised to Another… Took me awhile to get the courage to approach her in even a friendly way.
- Who is most romantic, your hero or your heroine?
Annie – I think Joshua is more romantic because he does all these sweet little things for me.
- What is the most caring thing your hero has ever done for your heroine?
He took the time to go to the school where I taught and left an apple and built a fire for the stove. It made me a little nervous at first, I thought a scholar had broke in to leave a snake or spider in my desk. But it was really just a sweet gesture.
- Who said, “I love you” first, your hero or your heroine?
Joshua told me he loved me first.
- If you hero and heroine end up married, where will they go on their honeymoon?
Joshua says he’ll take me to Pennsylvania. He promises lots of history there…

Annie Beiler is an Amish school teacher. She was in love with an Amish man, Luke Stultz, but Luke left the Amish community during his rumspringa, but not without begging Annie to go with him. Now Luke is back, trying to win back Annie’s love. Joshua Esh may be Amish, but he has been bitten by the travel bug. He sees the opportunity to relocate from Pennsylvania to Missouri as a way to satisfy his longing to see another place yet remain with people of his faith. Josh quickly notices the beautiful Annie, but Annie is slow to respond. With Luke in the picture, and Josh’s admission that he willingly left his district, will either man be steady and dependable enough to win the gift of Annie’s heart?
