Shannon here: I’m excited to introduce Lynn U. Watson. Her Historical Romance, Tangled Promises is another of my editing babies. With this book, I worked with Lynn one on one with no publisher involved and with no promises that it would be published. So when she emailed me that she had a publisher, I was beyond excited! Comment or answer the question in this post to enter the drawing for a signed print copy. Deadline: July 20th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Lynn:
- Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
I know I waited for him to say it first, but do I ever wish I could remember the circumstances. It was a lot of years ago.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
Like many couples dating in the early 70’s, we latched on to Cherish by the Association. We chose to have He Is Now to Be Among Us (The Wedding Song by Paul Stookey) sung at our wedding reception. We listen mainly to Christian music stations now, but when I hear either of the songs, they stir love in my heart.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?
We’ve celebrated several anniversaries at Bahama Breeze. We enjoy the island flavor – both the food and the atmosphere.
- What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
Our son was married the June we celebrated 30 years. My husband fussed a lot about how much I was doing for their wedding and accused me of not caring about it being our 30th. The wedding was coming up 2 weeks after our anniversary. When he arrived home from work on our anniversary, I greeted him at the door dressed in island attire. I had the table set with a tropical theme and a toy boat in the midst of the decorations. Tickets for a cruise later in the year were in the boat. He definitely ate his words. It was a great trip!
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
My spouse is not a romantic at heart, but he truly surprised me for our 40th anniversary. Our niece was married at a beach wedding the night before our anniversary. (Do you see a trend happening here? 😉*) We had to travel, and I doubted he had thought about more than a card. To my surprise, he had looked to see what the special gift was for the 40th and gifted me a ruby necklace. That was very special and romantic.
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
We had just graduated from college, and my husband had started a brand-new job. His boss knew he’d probably like a few days off for a honeymoon, but we couldn’t go far for him to be back at work on Wednesday. Our car was a VW, which often developed vapor locks and had to be pushed and the clutch popped to start it up. We went to Big Springs, MO. Not very exciting, but a pretty place. The car acted up more than once. I was the designated clutch popper. He and a couple of guys pushed me to get me started down a hill. The car started, but I had to drive a little way to find a turn-around spot. The guys who helped teased him that I had already run off. All romantic in its own way, and we laugh about it to this day – 51 years later now.
*Speaking of a trend. . . Last year on our 50th anniversary, a family member was married in the same church where we had wed. We celebrated with them. Wonder who it will be on our 60th?
Question for Readers: Do you know any long-married couples? How many years?

About the book – Tangled Promises:
Thunderous applause extinguishes her dream and ignites her worst nightmare.
Clara Reinhold’s father publicly pledges her hand to Georg Wolff. His character and arrogance match the stench of his odious cigars, but his lineage offers a suitable alliance for the station of a baron’s daughter.
A charades clue years earlier turned friendship into a promise of forbidden marriage between Clara and family carriage driver, Daniel Becker.
If she refuses Georg and follows her heart, her father disowns her and she loses everything – her loving family, dear friends, and the only home she’s known.
As a tangled web of scandal and deceit unwinds, hidden motives and illicit activities emerge among an unsuspecting ring of players changing everything but nobility’s rules.
How will justice be served?
How will Clara and Daniel overcome obstacles to claim a future beyond that of a charade?
