How I Met My Husband…
Okay, so this sounds so lame when people ask the question, but here goes: I met him at work. It sounds even worse when I tell people he was my boss. Let me explain.
I had previously worked for the company, but was laid off when company cutbacks hit. At the time, my future husband was at a different branch and I’ll be honest, I didn’t like him much. Thought he was arrogant and obnoxious. Was actually glad he was at a different location than me. Barely two months passed since I’d been laid off and I got a call from him…asking me to come to work at the company again. For him. He’d been promoted to a manager and was seeking a secretary.
What? Back that truck up! We didn’t even like each other.
He further explained that he was calling at the insistence of his regional manager, who I’d actually helped train on the computer system. It seemed my future hubby was scheduled to take vacation that couldn’t be postponed and he needed someone who could come in with no training. Alas, his manager had him call me. Since I had loved working for the company, and the return-to-work package was very attractive, I took him up on the offer.
The first week back at work was easy for us to get along…I was getting up to speed on any and all changes made since I left. The second week, he was on vacation. But when he returned…
We were like oil & water. Both of us are opinionated, stubborn and control-freaks. I was sure he was going to fire me, but he didn’t. We got in the middle of moving our office and my best friend came over to help us stuff envelopes after hours. During this time, she invited him to go out with us later that night. He finally agreed and we were able to get to know each other outside of the office and realized we really did like and respect one another. The rest, as they say, is history!

This is great! I just attended a workshop where we talked about different personality types. Interestingly enough, those types who don’t work well together often get along well in social situations, and vice-versa. Looking forward to hearing “the rest of the story!”
