I hoped to have news by now about a new contract. But I don’t. I’m still waiting to hear from my agent about a new book she’s shopping around for me. I’m excited about it! She’s excited about it! That doesn’t mean publishers will be, but I optimistic.
In the meantime, I had company. My husband’s stepmom, also known as Texas Mom came for a visit. We had a bonfire at our house one night and the family gathered. Left to right, my sister in law, nephew, Texas Mom in the middle wearing my coat, Grant, me, nephew’s wife. Time flew and before we knew it, it was time for her to leave. We always try to talk her into moving here. But so far, it’s a no go. And the house got quiet.
But not for long. Over the last few months, we’ve babysat our granddaughter. It went from five minutes, to thirty minutes, to an hour as our son and daughter-in-law worked up to leaving their baby girl. Then a whole day and finally a whole night.
It’s a good thing, because our daughter-in-law ended up getting a really job opportunity. Which means, I’m babysitting weekdays now. Which is a full time job with a seven-month-old. I’m not as young as I used to be, but oh the snuggles and noises and faces. And is there anything as sweet smelling as a baby shampoo?
Grant is a great tag-teamer. In between his church duties, he’s been helping a lot as I make a new routine. When the book contract comes, I never say if, I’ll have to carve out writing time while baby girl sleeps and at night. Suddenly, I’m transported back twenty-three years to when her dad was my baby boy. Who am I kidding, he’ll always be my baby boy. Until next time, I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Come back Dec 6th for a lineup of authors I’m hosting next year!
Love your family photo! I’ve got a similar one on my end and hope for more this holiday season. I’m between contracts right now but have plenty of ideas. Our god-daughter, aka Love Child, just had her baby but it will be a while before I see him since they’re stationed in South Korea. Merry Christmas!
Good luck on the ideas, Pat. Sometimes I have a hard time settling on just one. It’s sad when families are flung a cross the country. But that will make your first meeting with him sweeter.
We had a quiet Thanksgiving and now we are starting to decorate for Christmas. Happy Holidays!
Hey Diana, quiet is good. We usually have 2 family gatherings on Thanksgiving Day. And feel stuffed like a turkey every time.
We had our tree up before Thanksgiving. But my husband put the lights up this week.
Keeping busy with Christmas shopping, wrapping, writing Christmas cards, and decorating. Christmas baking is next.
Sounds like you’re on top of things, Cherie. Merry Christmas!
Great pictures!
Just came back from a family vacation and so not ready for the holiday season…
Family vacations rock, Natalya. It’s a busy season and easy to get worn out before it ever gets here. I skipped our Christmas parade this year. Our church did a float, but I wasn’t riding or passing out candy, so decided to stay home and catch my breath.
