- What’s the most romantic thing your hero ever did for your heroine?

When the Enterprise arrived off Guadalcanal, John buzzed the hospital ship and dropped a packet. Airmail special delivery. Inside with his note was a stone he’d been carrying around until he saw Gloria again. She painted miniature scenes on flat stone as paperweights.
- Do your hero and heroine have as favorite romantic restaurant?
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, also known as the Pink Palace. It’s pricy, but John believes Gloria is worth it.
- Do your hero and heroine have a favorite song?
“We Saw the Sea” from Fred Astaire’s movie, Follow the Fleet.
- What’s the most romantic present your hero ever bought your heroine?
Gloria’s secret dream is to dance with Fred Astaire. Lots of celebrities entertain the troops in the Pacific, but not Fred. John attends a war bond show in Chicago while home on leave and gets Fred’s autograph. Gloria is thrilled to find Fred’s signature under “Save a dance for me” in John’s birthday card, hand delivered by her roommate on the right day.
- What simple gesture does your hero do that melts your heroine every time?
When John learns that chickadees are Gloria’s favorite bird, he whistles the chickadees’ two-tone call. It becomes their signature whistle and she always thrills to hear it when they both end up in the same port.
- How soon after meeting the hero did the heroine know he was the one?
This is a best friend’s cousin story. Gloria loved John since she was five years old. Not until meeting in Pearl Harbor did John see Gloria as all grownup and gorgeous.
- What is the most caring thing your heroine has ever done for your hero?
Gloria saved John’s life. He was brought aboard the hospital ship more dead than alive and the doctor doing triage ordered him pushed aside. They saved the lives of those who have a chance, not those who without apparent hope. Recognizing him, Gloria slapped him, shook him, yelled at him. And he regained consciousness enough for the doctor to take him to an operating room.
- Who said, “I love you” first, your hero or your heroine?
John did, while they strolled on the beach by the Royal Hawaiian. Gloria responded that she loved him.

About the book – Listen for the Chickadees:

My favorite restaurant is Olive Garden, and my favorite dish there is the Tour of Italy.
My mom and I used to go to Olive Garden after church when Dad was away. I don’t remember a favorite entrée, but we always got a dessert to split. Sinfully delicious!
My favorite restaurant is Red Lobster and my favorite dish shrimp linguine.
My choice was always the salmon. And I loved the biscuits!
