Shannon here: I finally get to feature my critique partner, Brenda S. Anderson as a published author. We’re celebrating the release of her debut contemporary romantic family drama, Chain of Mercy. Comment on any post dated May 19 – 23 to enter the drawing for a copy. Deadline for drawing: May 31st, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Brenda:
When I met my husband, I certainly wasn’t looking for romance, I was simply looking for work. At that time, I was putting myself through college and working temp positions. My new assignment was at a city hall, doing repetitive data entry. I was assigned my own cubicle for this job …
Wait, let me retract that. I was assigned Marvin Anderson’s cubicle for this job. I’ll never forget seeing him for the first time. I was seated at his computer, typing, and looked up, way up. Tall, dark hair … Coke bottle glasses. 😉 And nice.
During that two-week assignment, we talked very little, but I gathered he was a sports nut (as was I). At that time he was planning his mother’s 50th Birthday party, so I assumed family was important. On top of that, he was intelligent. Somewhere in the midst of us working and talking very little, I developed a crush.
And then my assignment was over, and I assumed I’d never see him again.
But my landlord got it in her head that I should call and ask Marvin out. Uh, no way, was my answer. Guess who won that debate?
So, yes, I called him at work and asked if he’d like to meet for dinner after work. He fumbled through a yes, and we set a time and place to meet. Little did I realize that I hadn’t given him my phone number. If I had, he would have called and cancelled.
Twenty-seven years and three kids later, I’m still very glad I didn’t give him my phone number!

They forgave him for the accident that killed their son, but he will never forgive himself.
Manhattan businessman Richard Brooks was at the top of the world, drunk with success, wealth, and women. Until one disastrous evening, when his world came crashing down.
Richard flees to Minneapolis where he repairs ancient boilers instead of solving corporate problems, and he’s determined to live the solitary life he now deserves.
But Executive Sheila Peterson has other plans for the handsome custodian. Richard appears to be the perfect match for the no-strings-attached romance she’s after, but she soon discovers that he’s hiding more than the designer suits in his closet.
