Who Will Tell You the Truth?
My husband and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this past January. I don’t think it would have been possible to make it through all those years without a little truth telling. Sometimes it’s easy—hey, you’ve got ketchup on your cheek. To sometimes a little harder. I may lose my job and I’m not sure what that will mean for our family.
I was at that point one time in my nursing career ten years ago. There had been a situation during a shift. No harm, mistake, or neglect had occurred with a patient. You might be thinking . . . then what could a nurse lose a job over? To be honest, nursing is just like any other profession. There are good managers and bad managers and at that time I had a retaliatory one and she carried an incident to the most extreme position to show me she was ultimately in control. She was seeking severe disciplinary action and I feared I would lose my job. I received the call about this process starting when my husband and I were leaving to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
Needless to say, it wasn’t the celebration I hoped. I was teary eyed through the whole evening. We went to this amazing restaurant, and I could barely eat. My husband can sometimes grow weary of nursing work drama, but he knew what was happening was significant. He took my hand and said to me, “I love you. Even if you lose everything in nursing—you still have me. We still have our family.” It was the words I perhaps didn’t want to hear—my whole identity sometimes feels like being a nurse is the core of who I am—but it is what I needed to hear. The truth.
I weathered that storm. I remain a nurse still working with patients at the same hospital. Have had the opportunity to work for some amazing nurse managers since then and got awarded a coveted nursing award called The Daisy Award just this last February.
But what if your situation is far worse than mine. Imagine, for the sake of fiction, your husband is not who he seems. In fact, he’s the worst kind of human. A serial killer and you were the one to put him in jail. You’re whisked away into Witness Protection where you’ve rebuilt your life over the last three years only to have your nemesis set free and now, he’s hunting you because he never wants to go back to jail.
Facing our demons can be sticky and this is the ultimate test for the heroine, Rachel Bright, in my novel, Eliminating the Witness, releasing today. The hero, Kyle Reid, is the WITSEC inspector charged to protect her. Who will tell her the truth. Who will challenge the story she is telling herself. Can she overcome her past and put faith in a man when one before, she was so close to, betrayed her in unfathomable ways?
I guess you’ll have to read to find out.
Question for Readers: Who can you count on in your life to always tell you the truth, even when the truth hurts?

I enjoyed reading the post. It sounds like a really interesting book.
Thank you, Diana!
I can always count on my husband to tell me the truth. Sometimes it’s after the fact though like after my one surgery the surgeon had told him I only had a 2% chance of surviving.
Wow. That sounds like quite a story you have. I’m glad you’re still here with us.
I can count on my mom to tell me the truth, but she is always very kind with how she phrases it.
That is a motherly talent for sure– to be kind with our words to our children when we are telling them the truth.
My husband. Also, my parents, who were missionaries in Paraguay for over 36 years, when they were still alive. Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would love to win a print copy, especially since I really enjoy books by this author! God bless!
Hi Laul! I’m sure your parents had some fascinating stories to tell. for sure. I’m glad you like my books! What others have you read?
family
Love this. Sounds like you can trust your family a lot.
Well I can count on my friend Johanna to tell me the truth . She’s definitely no nonsense . Her daughter April was the same way .
I am that no nonsense friend to others and can claim a few myself. Friends like these are worth their weight in gold.
I have winners! Rose Blackard and Debbie won the drawing. I appreciate Jordyn for being my guest and everyone else for stopping by.
