Interview with heroine, Zoe Mack:
- Are you open to your own romance?
I wasn’t so sure about romance with Nate Neitch when I returned to town. He’d totally changed since last summer. He’d cut off the wavy hair I loved and sported a military buzz cut. And, what’s up with the tattoos? He’d never mentioned a tattoo, so why did he get two? To make matters worse, he hooked up with Lake after I left town. It’s not like we promised we wouldn’t date anyone else, but I didn’t. I spent the entire school year pining after him, counting the days until I could return to my grandparents house for the summer because that meant I’d live next door to him.
- What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?
The guy I marry will have to be someone I don’t fight with all the time. My parents’ constant fighting gets on my nerves and now they’re talking divorce. When I get married, I want it to be forever. I’m hoping my parents will get some counseling and work it out.
- What’s the number two quality you’d require in a mate?
He’d have to be faithful and I’d have to trust him. I’m trying to trust Nate, but the Laken thing broke my heart and I’ve never fully recovered. What if I fall head-over-heels and he does it again? And, he’d better love a good mystery.
- What’s the one habit or lifestyle that would make you run the other way?
I’d run from a guy who parties. That’s no kind of life. Nate told me he partied for a while after I left last summer because he missed me so much. The partying got him into a little trouble and he caught some criminal charges. He says he’s over it and I believe him.
- Where do you dream of getting married?
I’d love to get married at my grandparent’s house on the front porch with our guests below us in the yard. Nate and I have shared many kisses on the porch swing there and it holds special memories.
- Where do you dream of spending your honeymoon?
I’m not picky. Anywhere with Nate will be absolutely perfect. The only thing that would make it even better is if we run into a mystery while we’re there. I’m beginning to think Nate loves a good mystery as much as I do.

About the book: Zoe is thrilled when she lands her first paying case until she learns she’ll be going undercover at a local blood bank. The fact that she faints at the sight of blood makes working there more than difficult. Who would steal blood and what would they do with it? Is her creepy vampire-like coworker using it in a cult ritual?
When Zoe learns that Nate will be working undercover with her, she’s overjoyed. She soon finds that the gorgeous Rikki’s attraction to Nate is too distracting and considers throwing him off the case. Zoe questions his loyalty even as Nate proclaims that she’s the only girl for him.
Nothing is as it seems and Zoe has no clue who can be trusted. Who’s stealing the blood? Is it the director? The vampire-like guy with the fangs who wears all black? Or, her gorgeous co-worker who has a thing for Nate?
Come back July 16th for Mary Anslee Urban!
