My Very Unromantic Proposal Story by Kimberly Rose Johnson
I wish I could say my husband went all out and planned the perfect proposal, but that would be a lie. LOL I am probably married to one of the least romantic men on the planet. I’m constantly amazed by the proposal videos I see online. These men really put a lot of thought into how to propose—not my honey. 🙂
My man put zero thought and planning into his proposal. He actually proposed the day he purchased my ring. We’d talked about marriage and had even looked at rings, but he wanted to surprise me. Well he certainly did that. 🙂
He was visiting me in Oregon the weekend of my 19th birthday. The day before my birthday, we were sitting in my parent’s living room watching Air Wolf. Does anyone remember that show? It was one of my favorites. Anyway, I was sitting on one couch, and he was on the other. One minute we were watching TV and the next he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. I don’t remember if he got down on one knee or not. I don’t think he did.
I was shocked! I was still 18 and honestly didn’t expect him to propose so soon or in a moment like that. But, in spite of his lack of planning and impulsive proposal I said yes. We were married two months before my 20th birthday and have been together ever since. This year we will be married 27 years.
I guess that goes to show, a super romantic proposal isn’t necessary for a good marriage.

Come back April 21st for Regina Merrick!
Kimberly Rose says
Good Morning, Shannon! Thanks for having me on your lovely blog.
Shannon Vannatter says
Thanks for being here, Kimberly. I loved your proposal story.
For my design style – I like pastels and French Provincial furnishings. My house is full of flea market finds and my office is beachy with white wicker. But I live with two men, so the den, our son’s room and bedroom are rustic. It’s like there’s a line drawn down the middle of the house 🙂
Kimberly Rose says
I love French Provincial. 🙂
Becky Smith says
Aww! Fun interview! My hubby didn’t plan a romantic proposal, either, and we’ve been married for 40 years. I already have this book and LOVE this book!
Kimberly Rose says
Hi, Becky! Thanks. Forty years is fantastic.
Shelia Hall says
mine is country chic style
Kimberly Rose says
That’s a fun style too. Do you use a lot of whites Shelia?
Kim H in GA says
Transitional…traditional meets Hobby Lobby finds. 🙂
Kimberly Rose says
Kim H. I’ve never been to a Hobby Lobby. We are getting where I live though. I can’t wait to check it out!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
Oh my, Kimberly. You have not lived. Hobby Lobby is awesome. And a Christian company to boot. I could spend hours there. There are two, each an hour away from us. We have to go at least once a month.
Kimberly Rose says
My goodness! I can’t wait until ours opens.
Maryann says
I don’t really have a style,. I would say just comfortable with lots of blue and beige.
Kimberly Rose says
Comfortable is always nice.:)
Janet Estridge says
I also have a very un-romantic husband. We have a lot of furniture pieces that at one time belonged to our family members. So you might say we are surrounded by memories of our loved ones who have gone on before.
Kimberly Rose says
Hi, Janet. I’m sure we are in good company when it comes to unromantic husbands. 🙂
Donna B says
We don’t really have a certain style. I would say colors are basically light brown and blue. Most of the furnishings are well used and comfortable. I’m looking forward to reading Designing Love. Thanks for the story about your proposal and the giveaway.
Kimberly Rose says
Hi Donna. Comfortable is great!
Shannon Vannatter says
I have a winner! Maryann won the drawing. I appreciate Kimberly for being my guest and everyone else for stopping by.
