Shannon here: Laura Thomas shares insight into her characters’ romance from her latest Romantic Suspense, Captured in Frame. Comment or answer the question in this post to enter the drawing for a print copy, U.S. and Canada included. Deadline: Aug 17th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Laura:
- Where is the most romantic place your hero and heroine have ever been?
Georgia and Will would choose blackberry picking in an English forest, because that picnic in the sunshine was their first real date, and a time when they both had an inkling that feelings for one another were starting to run deep and true.
- Do your hero and heroine have a favorite romantic restaurant?
Yes! When a charming little Italian restaurant opened up just outside the village of Bramble Downs, Will and Georgia fell for its intimate ambiance and authentic cuisine. Discovering their mutual adoration of all things pasta, La Vita Vino quickly became their favorite place for a romantic dinner.
- Do your hero and heroine have a favorite song?
They do… it’s the classic “At Last” by Etta James. After everything Georgia and Will have endured, this song seems perfect for them.
- What is your heroine’s favorite romantic vacation destination?
Coming from the west coast of Canada, Georgia vacationed in Maui, Hawaii several times growing up. Her mom would find amazing off-season deals and take the girls for a fun beach trip, but Georgia always dreamed it would be incredibly romantic to go there with her husband one day and walk the palm tree-clad, white sandy beaches hand-in-hand. She’s holding on to that particular dream…
- What simple gesture does your hero do that melts your heroine every time?
Observing Will with his little boy, Jack, is enough to melt Georgia’s heart into a puddle of mush. Will is patient, kind, funny, and tender with the sweet toddler, and it’s clear they share a very special bond.
- How soon after meeting the heroine did the hero know she was the one?
Will was smitten and intrigued the first time he met Georgia at her cottage. With no intention of being in a serious relationship, he tried to suppress his feelings—but within days he knew she was special, and their dangerous predicament only accelerated their inevitable connection.
- Who is most romantic, your hero or your heroine?
Georgia was once a true romantic, but after having her heart broken so badly, she’s a little more guarded than Will, who constantly dreams up ways to show his love for her. He surprises her with chocolates, sends bouquets of red roses, leaves sweet love notes on her windshield, and takes delight in cooking her favorite food. Georgia’s a lucky girl!
- What is the most caring thing your heroine has ever done for your hero?
Georgia snapped a stunning photo of Will with his little boy, Jack, and had it made into a huge canvas. When Will came to her cottage expecting to spend the day with her, she presented him with the canvas and surprised him with a pre-arranged teddy bear’s picnic for the three of them in the forest instead. Will was delighted—and continues to be delighted at how thoughtful Georgia is and how she never fails to make Jack feel loved and included.
- Who said, “I love you” first, your hero or your heroine?
Will said, “I love you,” first—but Georgia was quick to reciprocate… and the rest is history.
- If your hero and heroine end up married, where will they go on their honeymoon?
If Georgia and Will end up getting married, they would enjoy a romantic honeymoon in beautiful Italy, as it’s not too far from home where little Jack would stay with his grandparents. Italy is somewhere neither of them have been before but it’s on both of their bucket-lists, and Georgia could capture some precious memories of their new chapter as man and wife in a stunning setting—with her ever-present camera.

About the book – Captured in Frame:
In an idyllic village nestled in the English countryside, photographer Georgia Brooks is desperate to begin a new chapter in her life. Bramble Cottage was supposed to give her space to heal and hope again after suffering betrayal and rejection by the only man she ever loved. This was Georgia’s chance to rekindle her faith and reconnect with her sisters in a place that held sweet childhood memories—not expose herself to the ugly underbelly of the art world and put her family in danger.
Local pediatric surgeon, Doctor William Hughes, is captivated by the Canadian beauty with a camera over one shoulder and the weight of the world on the other. After suffering his own tragic loss and balancing a demanding career with raising a toddler, he recognizes the heaviness of grief . . . and the burden of guilt.
When Georgia discovers she could be in possession of incriminating evidence to frame a criminal ring, she needs to trust someone. She chooses Will. Postcards, photographs, paintings—something about Bramble Cottage is worth killing for. Can Georgia uncover the truth in time?”

Shannon Vannatter says
Glad to have you, Laura. I love books set in GA. I lived there as a kid and grew up at Six Flags. I still have family there and love how GA people talk. I haven’t written any set there. I’d have to do a research trip first.
Laura Thomas says
Thanks, Shannon… although I think you may have my protagonist mixed up with my setting! 😆 The book is set in England and the protagonist’s name is Georgia—although I’m sure you love how English people talk, too!! 😉 Haha!

I like small town settings for the sense of community.
Laura Thomas says
That sounds wonderful, Diana. I really enjoyed setting this story in a sweet little village in England! 🤗
Cherie J says
I have a weakness for small town settings. I think it is because I have always lived in cities big and small. Since it something I am not used to, I am drawn to small town life.
Laura Thomas says
Sounds like a great reason, Cherie… there’s something cozy and comforting about a small town setting! 🤗
Natalya Lakhno says
My favorite getaway place is Carmel-by-the-Sea, It’s a small charming coastal town in California. It is surrounded by the beautiful mountains. Love walking the streets or the beech there! This would be my choice for the setting 🙂
Laura Thomas says
That sounds absolutely stunning, Natalya—thanks for sharing! 🤗
