- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
We went hiking in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and a lighthouse/waterfall tour. Loved it. Nothing like hiking through the woods to a waterfall, sometimes under a waterfall with your spouse.
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
He bought me a lighthouse necklace once simply because I loved it.
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he/she was the one?
Immediately! As soon as I met him I knew he was the guy I was going to marry. And we got together that night too.
- How soon after meeting you did your spouse know you were the one?
He says he’s pretty sure he knew immediately too.
- What is the most caring thing your spouse has ever done for you?
I’m semi-handicapped and he is very careful to stay near me in case I wobble or need help on stairs or getting up from chairs.
- What is the most caring thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
Rescued him multiple times when he got stranded!

Glad to have you here, Laura. Lots of people have done thoughtful things for me over the years. Three recent incidents come to mind.
We went to Walmart the other day and I stopped in the makeup. My husband continued through the store, but a few minutes later, he brought me a shopping cart since he knew I had to get groceries while there.
A few years ago, we were sick at the same time with some horrible pneumonia like infection. Just when we stopped coughing and felt like eating something spicy, a church member brought us a pot of chili.
A few weeks ago, my favorite cat was missing for eight days. I’d searched for him and called, and cried and decided he wasn’t coming back. On day eight, my husband found him in our shed injured. The vet said coyotes got him. He’s bunged up, has a broken leg, and is confined to the bathroom. One of our church members brought me a gift bag full of stuff for him–treats and toys.
I’m bad to think of thoughtful things to do, but don’t manage to get it done 🙁

I don’t know if this is the most thoughtful thing ever but it happened today! My sister-in-law sent me a box w/ a reading fairy figure, a package of Oreos (Fireworks Limited Edition), a bag of Russell Stover candy and a 1000 piece puzzle that is book covers of Great American novels! She knows me very well!! Thank you for sharing and here’s hoping to win a copy of Springs of Love. (i tried to add a pix of the gifts but couldn’t figure out how! I’ll post it on FB.) Thx again.

I’ve been blessed by loved ones and friends doing things for me at different times. Notes of encouragement during our dad’s brief illness before he passed away, along with food, cards and flowers afterwards will never be forgotten. A few years ago I was sick and different friends brought food to me so I didn’t have to cook. Neighbors helping to shovel heavy snow from my driveaway so I could get to work. God is so good to His children in so many ways. Shannon, thank you for featuring Laura V. Hilton on your blog. I’ve meet her, her husband and daughters. They are a beautiful family. I love the stories she has written. God bless.

My husband did something very thoughtful for me. Instead of taking my ring to be cleaned and resized, he bought me a new one!
Wendy Newcomb says
I think one of the most thoughtful things that was done for ‘us’, my husband mainly was a few years ago when we were just ‘window shopping’ and saw a chair that would be easier for my husband to sit in and get up out of. You see, he’d had back surgery in six months (8 screws, 2 spacers and a rod in his back) with several complications he had two more surgeries, one with a week and one six months later so this ‘directors’ chair sat higher and with the arms would work great, we decided $50 would be better spent at the time since he did okay by using his wheel chair as a chair, he didn’t have to actually use it anymore. When this ANGEL was listening to us talking about how good it would be for him and decided not to get it she insisted on buying it for us. We told her no that was fine, it wasn’t a necessity, but she took the chair from us, went to the check out and paid for it! I will never forget her!!!!!

During my first cancer surgery so many people from our church cooked us meals. They left them in a cooler by our door so I would not be disturbed if sleeping. I knew my family would be well feed and it helped so much with one less thing I had to worry about and focus on healing and regaining my strength.

One very thoughtful thing that was done for me was quite some time ago when I was a child and had to be hospitalized. My twin sister and I were both in the hospital, but I was dismissed first. My mom couldn’t be with both of us and our pastor and his wife at the time took me home with them and cared for me until my sister was dismissed to go home too.
Melanie Backus says
When I had surgery, ladies from church posted a sign up sheet for meal preparation and delicious meals were brought for one week. So sweet and thoughtful!
Cathy says
One of many things – the care my husband gave me while recovering from cancer surgery. I have one of Laura’s books, The Amish Wanderer. The novella collection sounds very interesting.
