How I met my husband by Sandra Orchard
In high school, I was one of the last students to board the crowded school bus in the morning. But this sweet “older” guy would offer me the seat beside him. Day after day. And I soon developed a crush.
Later I’d learn that, at the time, he’d thought I was just a cute kid.
I was a photographer for the school yearbook, so of course, I took his picture, and developed two extra copies—one for him and one for me.
Years later, I’d learn that he gave it to his then girlfriend that went to another school, and I hadn’t known he had!
The next year, he went off to university. I became a believer and set my sights elsewhere.
But two years later, after he’d become a believer, too, he showed up at a community Bible study I attended!
The instant he walked through the door, my heart leapt. I knew he was the one. Later that night, he asked if anyone needed a ride home … me, me!
Less than three months later, he asked me to marry him. I was only 17 so we had a loooong engagement—a secret one for the first year. We’ve now been happily married for 25 years.

Zach will risk everything to keep them safe, no matter the cost.

Oh Sandra, what a beautiful love story. Loved that he thought you were a cute kid when you were all mooney-eyed over him. Did he ever guess that you had a crush or was he the typical oblivious teen-age male?

Kav, I don’t think he guessed at the time as he was dating another girl, but when he asked if anyone needed a ride a couple of years later, that question was meant for me, alone. 🙂
Thanks, Jackie and Jessica, I love to tell the story. 🙂

Oops – forgot to say that I already have Critical Condition so please don’t add my name to the draw.
Sandra — love that he asked a general question meant just for you! What would you have done if three other women had jumped at the offer too? I can see you all scrambling for the coveted front seat, elbowing each other out of the way. LOL.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
Clarification. I flubbed the book drawing. The book giveaway is for Shades of Truth, prequel to Critical Condition. So if you don’t have that one, Kav, you can be in the drawing.
Sandra Orchard says
LOL, Kav. You’re not far off. There was another girl there who would have liked to be able to say yes, but lucky for me, she’d driven that night.
