Shannon here: I’m sharing some good changes on the blog. Along with my guest list for the rest of the year. Comment or answer the question in this post to enter the drawing for a book from my backlist or one of my editing babies I have in stock. Deadline: July 13th, 11:59 pm central time.
I started something new around here. Initially, the purpose of this blog was to lead readers to my books. But I wanted to lead readers to Christian and/or clean books other than mine. My goal was to blog regularly without having to constantly come up with something new to say. I decided to make it all about romance, since that’s what I write, and came up with sharing authors’ real-life or character romances.
It’s worked since 2010. I used to blog three times a week, with guest authors taking up most of the blogging, usually with a giveaway. And when I have a new release, I’m my own guest. Back when I had a bunch of deadlines hit all at once and my son was small, I cut back to two times a week. Because even with other authors doing most of the writing, I still have to set up the posts and pick book winners. I’m always behind on picking winners. Just ask my guest authors.
About a year ago, I discovered Toni’s Roundup. Toni Shiloh shared new book releases, preorders, sales, giveaways, and freebies on her wonderful blog. I’d share my giveaways there and got a lot of readers from her blog. But Toni got busy. A few weeks ago, she announced she wouldn’t be doing her roundup anymore. I thought, wow, I’ll miss her blog. I wish someone else would take up the torch. I even considered mentioning it on an author e-mail loop where hundreds of Christian authors stay in contact.
And then, I thought, you big weenie, why don’t you do it? I was hesitant. Toni’s reason for ending her roundup was because it was time-consuming. I looked at her last few blogs. Tons of book covers she arranged and embedded the link in each cover, so readers could click on the cover and go straight to where the new release, sale, giveaway, preorder, or freebie was. But most of them were new releases and preorders. Lots of blogs cover new releases. So I decided I could handle giveaways, sales, and freebies without taking up so much time.
I contacted Toni and she was excited. She even let her contacts know what I was doing. So the very first
week, I was able to share a dozen books on sale, free, or to be given away. Then Narelle Atkins contacted me and said she heard what I was doing. She said the thing that was helpful to her about Toni’s blog was the preorders and she was considering taking over that part. I encouraged her to go for it. We decided to be a tag-team. She shares my sales, giveaways and freebie roundup links. I share her preorder links.
So far, my roundups are on Mondays, with guest authors on Tuesdays and Fridays. I’m thinking next year I’ll go back to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. But since I have lots of authors already booked through the end of the year, I’ll wait til the New Year to shake things up.
I’m still writing too. Inspiration struck and I’m almost finished with book one in a new series. It’s longer length than I’ve been published in, so I have to finish it before my agent can try to find a publisher for it.
So in case you missed it, here’s this week’s roundup: Shannon’s Book Bargains Roundup July, 1 2024
