Shannon here: This week I’m giving away a copy of the soon to be released book 2, in my Texas rodeo series. I don’t have my author copies yet, but the winner of the drawing will receive a copy of Rodeo Hero as soon as I get my hands on one. Comment on any post dated, March 19 – 23. Deadline: March 31st, 11:59 pm central time.
In the past, I’ve talked a lot about how supportive my husband has always been of my writing. We’ve gone through a lot of changes in the last several months and it’s my turn to step up to the plate. After 26 years as a dental technician and ten years as a bi-vocational pastor, my husband became a full time pastor in December.
This is what we’ve prayed for—for years. With this answered prayer comes lots of changes. He’s a lot less stressed. We have more family time in the evening, though he is on call for meetings or hospital visits. Unless needed elsewhere, he gets to attend our son’s basketball and baseball games without missing half of them because he’s still at the dental lab. The other parents at our school realize I am married and our son does have a father. We have less money, but more time. I’ll take more time any day.
Since he has more time, he’s thrown his hat in a local political race as a candidate for Justice of the Peace. He’s preached conservative principals for years and felt he needed to put his money where his mouth is. Before committing himself officially, he asked what I thought about it. I said, “Whatever you want to do.”
With these changes, I have more responsibility to our church and I’ve attended a few political rallies lately. He spends his days at the church or visiting members and I’m still writing. But since I’ve finished my rodeo series except for two more edits, I don’t have any contracts at the moment. My brain is always overflowing with book ideas, so I’m praying about which project to focus on.
We have fewer travel plans this year. Last spring break, we went to Fort Worth, Texas for research. This spring break, we’re not going anywhere. My agenda, spend time with our son, have one family fishing day, and know by next week which book I need to write next.
I do know one thing—wherever these new paths take us, we’re in it together.
This isn’t a terribly romantic post, but sometimes romance just means being there for each other.
Come back March 21st when I’ll share our research trip to Aubrey Texas, the setting for each hero’s ranch for my rodeo series.

Shannon, I know exactly what you mean – sometimes less money is tough, but less time? Even tougher. I’m convinced that if my husband had stayed on the fast track in education, he would have ended up having a heart attack by 50. Stress is not worth it. I know your husband has been right behind you every step of the way, and mine is trying to nudge me back on track! It’s great to have wonderful men in our lives, isn’t it?
Personally, I think that’s about as romantic as it can get. 🙂
Hugs,
Regina

You are so right…it is romantic to have someone who is always there, someone who you can depend on. If anyone doesn’t find that romantic, try doing without, then let me know what you think.

Shannon, so happy that Grant is now full time with his ministry. You all have some very lucky folks in your church. You and Grant are the epitome of romance. Since things have changed in my life as well, I can see how much I missed not being here when the kids got home from school, that’s some priceless time you’ll never get back. Good luck to you both!

I think it is TOTALLY romantic. I spent 25 years in a struggling, painful marriage and now live in peace and harmony (12 years) with a devoted, Christian husband. It’s Heaven on earth. I want that book, girlfriend!

Hey Angela,
Thanks for stopping by.
Regina,
I’ll definitely take more time or funds. He had to go out of town for church errands today. Since our son’s on spring break, we went with him. It was so nice spending the day together. We used to only do that on Saturdays and it was always a short day since he had to get two sermons done.
And by the way, you need to get in gear with writing.
Lisa,
I don’t know what I’d do without a supportive husband. I’m sure I wouldn’t be writing.
Hey Jennifer,
We’re really enjoying both, the new ministry and our family time.
Sheila,
It was a fun book to write. I’ll get more into the book as the week progresses.
Danita,
Thanks for the compliments. I’ve felt very blessed to always be a stay-at-home mom. And I’m so glad Grant’s getting to be a dad for a change. Enjoy your time with the grandbaby now.
Illene,
Looking forward to seeing you soon. Being supported is totally romantic. There’s nothing like having someone you know you can always count on, no matter what. Trust me, I want that book too. I can’t wait til my box shows up.
