- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
The most romantic place my spouse and I have ever been is Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. It is only 45 minutes from our house, so we’ve been able to spend many anniversaries there. We stay at a Bed-and-Breakfast, walk to the beach, spend time in art galleries, and enjoy the many restaurants. We literally park the car and walk everywhere! It’s quaint, romantic, and simply wonderful! I love Carmel so much that I even wrote my novel, Watercolor Dreams, about it.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
My husband makes my coffee every morning—even on Thursdays when he leaves early to meet his men’s group for breakfast. Now that’s love!
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he/she was the one?
My husband and I started dating two weeks into my freshman year in college. I was eighteen and he was twenty-two (turning twenty-three in a couple of weeks!) Since I was so young, I really didn’t think about the possibility of him being my spouse for quite some time. On the other hand, he said, “The next person I get serious with I’m going to marry.” No pressure there! Haha He finally asked me to marry him in November of my senior year. The timing was perfect.
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
Our honeymoon started in Carmel, California, where else? haha After two days, we flew to Seattle, Washington, and stayed the night at a friend’s house overlooking the Puget Sound. It was beautiful! From there my husband and I took a ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, Canada. (One of the highlights was visiting the Butchart Gardens.) After four days, we spent a few days in Vancouver. The last leg of our trip was in Denver, Colorado where we had a second wedding reception. We were gone two weeks and had a wonderful time!
- What’s the most romantic present your hero ever bought your heroine?
When Jonas was ten years old, he gave Elena a silver locket. She still wears it to this day even though her parents want her to marry Lars, the wealthy shopkeeper of Cayucos General Store.
- What simple gesture does your heroine do that melts your hero every time?
Elena is a dairy farmer’s daughter through and through, and her commitment to her family and the farm melts Jonas’s heart. She’s kind and caring, even nursing a bedraggled mare back to health, and is not afraid to hunt for the thief who’s been stealing their cows!

About the Book – Road to Harmony:
Torn between love and loyalty, will they choose the road to harmony?
It’s 1907 and a cattle thief is loose in Harmony Valley. Elena Seifert wants to help her father guard his dairy farm, but everyone thinks that’s a man’s job. When her childhood sweetheart returns to Harmony, her heart is torn between Jonas Bollinger, her secret love, and Lars Rissler, the wealthy middle-aged storeowner her parents hope she marries.
Jonas never imagined he’d be back in Harmony Valley, but his pa isn’t well. When Jonas makes a promise he wishes he didn’t have to keep, he is torn between loyalty to his family and the woman he has loved since he was a boy.
The thief continues to strike, while a dispute among dairy farmers stirs up discord in the Valley. Is a truce possible so everyone can live in harmony? And will Elena and Jonas find the inner peace to choose love and still do what is best for their families?

Janet Estridge says
My family and I had to make a decision to take our Dad off life support. He would have been a vegetable if he had lived. We had peace afterwards but I never want to do anything like that again.
Sherry says
Hi Janet,
I understand. My husband and siblings had to make the same decision to take their mom off life support several years ago. It was so hard! They also had peace, but it didn’t make the decision any easier.
Blessings,
Sherry
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
Hey Sherry. My husband is a pastor. Each time (twice) we’ve left a church, it was heart-rending. Each congregation was like family. We’ve cried many tears. We had peace each time with the decision to leave. But the losing the church family part took some time for the peace to come.
Sherry says
That would be a tough decision, Shannon! Sometimes the best decisions are the hardest ones to make. And total peace doesn’t happen right away even though we know what we’re doing is right! We moved when my dad was transferred to Denver from Illinois when I was in the second grade. I cried the whole plane ride. Leaving our extended family (grandparents, cousins) was so tough on my little heart. My sister, on the other hand, was super excited for the new adventure!
Joan Arning says
Putting my husband in a nursing home because of psychiatric problems.
Sherry says
Hi Joan!
Oh, that must have been a very tough decision for you! My grandmother had to do the same thing for my grandfather years ago. I hope you are at peace with your decision.
Blessings,
Sherry

Several years ago I made a decision to change churches after we had a new pastor come who was very different than any of the previous pastors that had been there over my lifetime. It was a very hard decision as I held several positions there. I did have peace after I changed to the other church. Thanks for this giveaway and interview.

Taking my kids and moving 900miles away to my sisters to escape an abusive marriage in 1992. God gave me peace.
