One of the things my husband and I enjoy doing is heading to the lake to go fishing. Over the last twenty-eight years, it’s been our private time together through good times and hard times.
I love the word “cast”, not only because I enjoy fishing and the motion of casting my lure brings me a sense of relief, but it also brings a sense of calmness. In a similar way, this scripture speaks to me.
When we cast or throw our anxieties to Christ, we are releasing them from our hands to His. There’s a sense of relief and a calmness in the action.
Why does He want us to do this?
Because scripture says He cares for us, loves us, and when we can’t bear the anxieties in our hearts, or the churning in our souls, He can. He asks us to give it to Him. To trust Him with our doubts, fears, or anxieties. And when we do, those things that brought us anxiety are replaced with a sense of peace.
I’d like to say that every time I throw my line into the water there’s a fish on the end, but one thing is for sure, I never regret the time spent on the water or the peace that follows. And I can promise you, the time spent with the Lord is never wasted, there’s never regret, but there’s also an assurance that He’s with you and He can carry any burden you cast His way.
So cast your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.
It’s a beautiful promise, one I’m reminded of every time I’m on the water. Thank you, Lord, for your promises and peace.
Question for Readers: What in your life brings you peace? A sense of the Lord’s presence?

About the book – The Heart of Mercy:
To one, hope is a gift. To the other, a lie. To both, it’s what binds them.
Mercy Cunningham runs a homeless shelter and soup kitchen in Atlanta. Dismissive of her noble work among the destitute, her father continually pesters her to work for his Fortune-500 corporation. A bedraggled stranger visits the soup kitchen and catches Mercy’s attention. Not because of the piercing gaze almost hidden behind his facial hair, but because something seems off about him.
Noah Allen is not the pastor, or even the man, he once was. The single-blow death of his wife and child made sure of that, as did a raging opioid addiction. Blaming himself for their deaths, he wanders the country without a destination and without a desire to find one.
Then, Mercy finds him.

Hey Tanya, thanks for being here. I love to fish, but not really fish. I want someone else to bait my hook and then just sit there after I cast. No recasting, just sitting. Better yet, let me sit while everybody else fishes.
As far as peace and God’s presence, I love sitting on the screen porch when it’s cool outside. Watching the birds. No phones or internet. Just sitting in quiet.
