Shannon here: Valerie Comer interviews her hero from her latest contemporary romance, Plum Upside Down. Comment or answer the question at the end of any post dated August 19 – 21 to enter the drawing for an e-book copy. Deadline: August 29th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Valerie:
Hi. I’m Keanan Welsh. I am a practical man who helps people in hands-on ways. I speak several languages and enjoy travel, but not for the sake of seeing new places. Instead, I dig wells, install solar panels, and share the gospel with anyone who will listen. Recently I’ve joined the team at Green Acres Farm in Idaho, where I enjoy spiritual fellowship with the team, work hard on the farm, and am active in the local church.
You said you have some questions for me?
- Are you open to your own romance?
It could happen, I suppose, but I’m not actively seeking it. As a musician, I’ve sung and played in many weddings and, while I’m happy for my friends, I’m just not sure there is anyone out there for me. That’s okay. I am content with my lot in life.
- What’s the number one quality you’d require in a mate?
That hypothetical mate? She would need to have a passion for Jesus and a desire to share Him. She’d want to travel with me and make a difference in peoples’ lives during the farm’s off-season. We’d be a team. That makes marriage sound pretty good, actually.
- What type of character traits are you attracted to?
Someone who puts others’ needs before her own and has compassion on those who are in need. A generous spirit. God has given us so much, and He desires us to reach out to those who are less fortunate.
- What type of features are you attracted to?
Uh, features? You mean, what she looks like? Why does that matter? Pretty is as pretty does, my mother used to say.
- What’s the one habit or lifestyle that would make you run the other way?
Frivolity. Selfishness. Wait, that’s two.
- Where do you dream of getting married?
Green Acres Farm is a beautiful, peaceful spot for weddings. Not as stuffy or formal as a big-city church, but surrounded by friends, family, and God’s nature.
- Where do you dream of spending your honeymoon?
I don’t dream of honeymoons. If I ever get married, which is doubtful, I’ll be so focused on my bride that I won’t care where we are. Uh, that might be too much information.
- What would be the best gift a potential mate could buy for you?
I’d value a home-cooked meal or a handmade quilt over anything money can buy. Things are just things and don’t have eternal value.

About the book – Plum Upside Down:
Topsy-Turvy… or Right-Side Up?
Green Acres newcomer Chelsea Riehl is annoyed. After all, she signed on as an event planner, not to pit plums alongside the mission-minded hippie Keanan Welsh, the only other single on the farm.
Discouraged by Chelsea’s lack of spiritual depth, Keanan is confused when she offers to arrange meals for the church Alpha program he is co-hosting. Maybe he misjudged her, after all.
When fake it ’til you make it gives way to a leap of faith, both Chelsea and Keanan have some soul-searching to do. Will getting on the same page spiritually be enough to flip their budding romance right-side up?

Question for readers: Do you grow your own food? Buy it from a farmer’s market? Or from the grocery store?
Come back August 21 for Valerie’s interview with her heroine!
Linda Rainey says
I buy from a grocery store because I live in a tiny apartment and no farmer’s market close.
Patty says
I do like to visit the local farmers market, and there are several near by. But I don’t make it as often as I would like. Mostly it’s the grocery store for me.
Valerie Comer says
I wind up at the grocery store at least once a week, even though I have a garden and a farmers’ market and a natural meat market!
Ann Ellison says
I enjoy buying from our local farmer’s market and grocery store too. I loved Plum Upside Down.
Elizabeth Dent says
We buy mostly from the grocery store, we will buy some from the market . Love your books Valerie.
Kathleen Friesen says
Hi, Valerie. My answer to your questions is Yes! I grow some of our food, love to shop at the farmers market, and also shop at the grocery store. This book sounds really good, and I’d love to win a copy. 🙂
Valerie Comer says
Yay for those who seek out the farmers’ markets! Isn’t fresh food THE best? 🙂
