- What’s the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?
We got married while we were still both in college. On our honeymoon we met another young couple with the same wedding date as us. The following summer, my husband got a surprise bonus and planned a trip out to see them, and sunny California and surprised me with it.
- What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
I can’t speak for him, but I know one thing he really enjoyed. He has a dream of learning to fly a plane someday and I surprised him with a “test flight” of a small plane under the guidance of an instructor.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
Our song, since high school, has been “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden, and that will always be on the list. As we’ve lived our marriage we’ve also really grown to love “When God Made You” by Newsong with Natalie Grant
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic vacation destination?
As a general rule, we like to “try somewhere new” with vacations, but when it’s the two of us on a trip we tend to prefer a spot to relax like resorts or beach vacations. We have a large family, so when manage to borrow some time to sneak away on a trip, downtime is a must. We’ve loved various places in Mexico and for our ten year anniversary we went to St. Lucia, which was really beautiful and the people there were so wonderful.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
He wakes up early every morning to make me coffee so it’s ready and waiting for when I wake up. It’s so simple, but says so much about how much he knows me. I am not a morning person and often life forces me to be. We live a very busy life, and it’s just as busy for him as it is for me, yet he goes out of his way to do this every morning. If he has to leave much earlier than I’d wake up (for work or some special meeting) he’s been known to prep everything and include a sign that says “just pour in the water. :)”
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he/she was the one?
He doesn’t believe me, but I knew the first second I met him.
- How soon after meeting you did your spouse know you were the one?
It took him a little longer lol. I don’t know the exact date, but we became friends and began dating about a year later. Sometime after that, I supposed 🙂
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was beautiful 🙂
Question for Readers: In Emma’s Hero, Emma had a tradition of making soup with her dad. Are there any traditions with your family that mean a lot to you?

About the book – Emma’s Hero:
“God won’t give me more than I can handle? I’m pretty sure He just did.”
After a year of loss and bad choices distance Emma Reynolds from her lifelong beliefs, she finds herself pregnant and alone at a twenty-week ultrasound, hearing the words “incompatible with life.” When her son, Theo, survives birth, she fights to give him the best care possible. As each day passes, Emma’s love for Theo grows—along with her fear of losing him. She can’t understand why God allows her son to suffer.
Seventeen-year-old blogger, Mason Hughes, feels lonely and worthless after his father left their family years ago. When he ignores his mother’s push to “contribute to society,” she volunteers him to help Emma each week. Wishing he’d applied for any other job, Mason has no choice but to grocery shop and practice his rusty social skills with a mother and son he doesn’t know.
Paramedic Ben Sullivan has earned himself the title of “most eligible” bachelor among his friends as they continually set him up on blind dates. While he’d love to avoid the uncomfortable events, his heart can’t help but seek the one thing missing in his life—a marriage like his parents have. If only he could find the woman himself.
As Theo’s tiny life connects them to each other, their loneliness breaks under the love of community, and they will never be the same.

The family tradition that means the most to me is a zoom call that is scheduled for every Sunday afternoon. Of course, life interferes sometimes, but I love seeing some of my three kids and eight grands on the regular. Their silly faces, meaningless jokes, and general silliness warm this Granny’s heart.

We don’t really have any traditions but we enjoy cutting the Christmas tree in the forest 🙂
