Shannon here: Kathy McKinsey shares insight into her real-life romance, plus a chance to win an e-book copy of her Women’s Fiction novella collection, Gifts of Grace. Deadline: March 19th, 11:59 pm central. Here’s Kathy:
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
My husband Murray has always loved John Prine’s music. After Mr. Prine’s death a couple years ago, Murray started listening to his songs even more, and after we’d been married almost 34 years, we finally found “our song,”—“It’s a Big Old Goofy World.”
When Murray played the song for me, and I heard the words about a goofy guy dancing with a goofy girl and oh how it is a “big old goofy world,” I laughed and said, “that’s the story of our lives.”
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
Murray stands in front of me, holds my hand, and says “I never thought I’d be so happy.”
- Who is most romantic, you or your spouse?
Definitely Murray. He is able to say sweet, romantic words to me so much easier than I can to him. I do enjoy writing him letters, though. I need to do more of that again.
- What is the most caring thing your spouse has ever done for you?
Almost ten years ago, I was in the hospital for six weeks. Murray spent hours of every day and evening with me. That made such a difference in how the hospital stay went for me.
- Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
I did, but I didn’t mean to. It just popped out, and I remember being so embarrassed.
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
Since we got married on a Thursday during the first week of Murray’s semester at college, we took a train ride from Jefferson City Missouri to Kansas City during his winter break. We stayed there a couple days, walking around, eating out a lot, and going to a movie. Murray learned early on not to spend money on me much by going out to movies. I always fall asleep.

Question for readers: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose – country or city living? Why?
Come back March 11th for Sherry Shindelar!
Janet Estridge says
If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be right here.
This is where I was born and 69+ years later, I’m still here.
I have no desire to go elsewhere.
Linda Palmer says
If I had the choice between city or country life, I’d chose living in a small town. I would chose it because of the friendliness of small towns.
Kathy sounds like someone I’d enjoy spending time with. So I’m sure her book would be interesting.
Mary Preston says
I live in a large country town. The best of both worlds.
Joy C Hannabass says
If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be somewhere near a beach. I don’t get to go often, but when I do, my physical and medical issues are so much better. But it will never be. My husband is a homebody and would never move anywhere else. And now that we have a grandaughter, I wouldn’t move away unless my son and his family moved too!
In reading about this book, it sounds really wonderful. I can wait to read it. Kathy McKinsey is a new author for me, too. It’s exciting! Thank you ladies much! Joy
Kathy McKinsey says
I think I’d love to live in the country, but have all the comforts of a nearby town for groceries, doctors, visits with family and friends.:) Thank you everyone for your comments.:)
Shannon Vannatter says
That’s where we live, Kathy. We’re in a very rural area with houses far apart. But there’s a city of 9,000 8 miles away. Another city near 20,000 is only 30 minutes away. It’s perfect, peaceful, quiet living.
Natalya Lakhno says
Carmel-by-the-Sea – I love this small coastal town surrounded by the mountains.

I have a winner! Joy C. Hannabass won the drawing. I appreciate Kathy for being my guest and everyone else for stopping by.
