THE PROPOSAL
Who needs romance? I mean really. Romance is for the young not for old people like me, right? Wrong!! Who needs romance? I don’t know about you but I need it and want it.
My husband-to-be had spent a year wooing me. And yes, I do mean wooing. In that year’s time, he worked very hard to make me feel special. Not an easy task, but he’d managed to do it very well.
Yesterday, you learned how I met my husband. Today, we’re talking about proposals.
It was our one year anniversary of dating. And I was pretty sure I knew what was coming. So, it wasn’t going to be a surprise. I saw it coming from a mile away. So, no surprise meant no romance, right?
We went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in our town. Ye Olde Jaol. It’s actually a restaurant that was converted from the old county jail. The original cells are now small intimate dining rooms complete with brick walls.
The place is dark. Not many windows in a jail, right? The darkness gives a sense of romance and intimacy. Candles and dim lights add to the ambiance. The waitress takes us to a table.
There’s a beautiful flower arrangement on the table.
We order our dinner, talk , and laugh as the tiny cell fills up with other diners.
Toward the end, the waitress comes over and makes a comment about the flower arrangement and I agree it’s beautiful. She tells me they’re mine.
It seems my sneaky husband-to-be brought them in earlier and had it all arranged. When the waitress left, he slipped out of his chair and onto his knees and proceeded to ask me to make him the happiest man on earth. Through my tears, I agreed and all the diners clapped and hooted.
It might not have been a surprise but it was a night filled with romance.
