Ronie Kendig – Romantic Interview – Part 1 of 1

Shannon here: Barbour author Ronie Kendig shares a glimpse into her real life romance and a chance to win her book: Digitalis (Book 2 in the Discarded Heroes series). Comment on any post dated Jan 24 – 28. Deadline Jan 29, Midnight Central time. Here’s Ronie:

1.  Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
For our twentieth anniversary, my husband and I went to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater house in Pennsylvania. Even if you aren’t an architecture enthusiast, the home and its setting on Bear Run creek are absolutely magical. There is nothing like it, and I can’t imagine ever visiting a place that surpasses it.
2.   How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he/she was the one?
I’d been through some uncomfortable relationships prior to meeting Brian, and I was kind of, sort of, dating another GI when Brian walked into the bookstore where I was working. After he returned a few more times, there was a day he walked in and when I saw him, it was like I heard a voice say, “Make your choice: him or the other guy.” I chose Brian. We dated for a couple of months but he’d never kissed me, and I wondered if he didn’t like me or something. Then. . .the day he did kiss me, I absolutely, unequivocally knew I would marry him. In fact, it was a kiss goodnight, and as I went into my mom’s apartment, I closed the door, locked it, and slumped against it crying—because I knew I would marry Brian and that meant leaving my mom, whom I was very close to since my parents’ divorce five years earlier. I was all my mom had since my brother lived in California and her family was in Ireland (she immigrated at 18).
3.   How soon after meeting you did your spouse know you were the one?
Brian says he knew very soon after we met that I was the one, which is the reason he didn’t want to kiss at first. He said he wanted our relationship to be godly and he wanted to “do things right.”
4.   Who is most romantic, you or your spouse?
Brian can be extremely romantic and thoughtful in certain situations. I am the one whose love language is the giving/receiving of gifts, but Brian’s love language is quality time, so we both find ways to be romantic in terms of that.
5.   Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
I love this story—Brian was the first one those words came from, but he didn’t say it with his mouth. We were both working at a Christian bookstore at the time, and there was a bunny puppet from the children’s area that was clearanced out. I loved that bunny, so Brian bought it for me and surprised me with it. Only after he went on break that night did I see that on the tag, he’d written: I LOVE U!
