Shannon here: Historical romance author, S. Dionne Moore shares more about her characters’ romance plus a chance to win a copy of her latest release, A Heartbeat Away. Comment on any post dated July 15 – 19 to get your name in the drawing. Deadline: July 27th, 11:59 pm central time. Here’s Dionne:
* What’s the most important thing your hero ever did for your heroine?
Joe Madison is a man who has known heartbreak and hard times. A Confederate soldier caught up in the tug between North and South, he finds himself injured and in the care of a young woman prelude to the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg). Elizabeth Bumgartner is a Union loyal woman with a desire to become a nurse, but she has a limp, a souvenir of her attempt to rescue a small child from a burning building. Joe’s gift to Elizabeth is his ability to see beyond the disability that has scarred Beth’s heart and soul for so long. She feels it makes her unlovable, a fact verified more times than naught by situations in her past. But Joe’s is a heart that understands, a great gift for a woman like Beth. Only Joe’s severe injury hangs like a shadow over the tender threads of their fledgling love.
* Do your hero and heroine realize the message of the quilt?
Beth’s mother had poured her heart into creating the blocks of fabric, with their intricate color scheme, in the hopes that her daughter would come to understand and grasp the bigger message. It is Joe that first correctly interprets the secret message of the quilt’s colors. Beth realizes that the message matches her mother’s heart and even as the battle rages around her and Joe she learns, first hand, just how much she needs to hear her mother’s message.
* What simple gesture does your hero make that is the final hurdle in stealing the heroine’s heart?
Beth has a terrible limp. Ever since trying to save a young boy from a terrible fire, she has been crippled, and the rejections she has endured from would-be suitors since then has scarred her heart. She doesn’t believe any man capable of looking beyond her limp, until Joe tells her that it doesn’t make a difference to him.
