- What’s the most romantic thing your spouse has ever done for you?
One year on Valentine’s Day he had to work all night and we couldn’t go out on a date. When he returned home at about 2:00 a.m., he woke me up and asked me to come downstairs. He had bought me my favorite dessert, chocolate éclairs, and brewed me some coffee. It was a very romantic gesture that I’ve never forgotten. A simple act to show me how much he was thinking of me even though we couldn’t spend the evening out together.
- What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
When he graduated from college a year after we were married, I surprised him with a tuxedo and a limo, which took us to a hotel downtown, where we stayed the night. Then the next day we went on a day trip to the local zoo and had a picnic. He loved it!
- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?
It’s not really the place as much as it is the company, I suppose, but a few years ago we went to Cedar Key, Florida for a week. Just the two of us. It is a quaint town with only about 400 locals. Everyone was so friendly, the fishing was awesome, the water was glorious, and the time alone with my hubs was priceless.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh. It was playing on the radio when we got engaged in 1987.
- What’s the most romantic present your spouse ever bought for you?
He bought an antique trunk for me because he knew I was addicted to the 1800s, and he refurbished it. It still sits at the foot of our bed today.
- What simple gesture does your spouse do that melts you every time?
Acts of Service is my love language. When my husband does simple things like washing the dishes or walking the dog, they melt my heart.
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he was the one?
By the end of the first date!!
- What is the most caring thing you’ve ever done for your spouse?
I finally realized that he likes to go fishing by himself as a form of stress relief. I stopped being jealous of his time in the woods and started celebrating it because it refreshes him, which is actually a benefit to me.
- Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
He did!
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
Gulf Shores, Alabama.

About the book – To Dance Once More:
Marriage was the last thing on her mind. Now it may be her only choice.
Debutante Lydia Barrington lives a carefree, protected existence on Live Oaks Plantation in Florida. While her sisters happily prepare for their traditional roles as women and talk of courting, Lydia dreams of adventure and independence. She counts the days until she can leave home to explore the world, to dance with cultured gentlemen, to explore politics and art, to leave behind the confining expectations of her family and community—and her God. Even her friendship with handsome Hamilton Scarbrough isn’t enough to hold her back…until they dance, and her heart considers love.
Confused by her heart’s betrayal, Lydia struggles to gain her independence. Then she overhears a private conversation about a business deal that has everything to do with her future. Now she’s faced with the biggest decision of her life—to concede or to fight. Either choice will require great sacrifice…and, perhaps, countless rewards. In an attempt to escape her imminent destiny, Lydia scrambles to find a solution—at all costs. Amidst the trials that follow, as Lydia runs out of time, she learns the meaning of sacrifice, forgiveness, hope and faith. Stripped of her future, will she concede or fight?
Will she ever be able TO DANCE ONCE MORE?
Romance. Scandal. Desperation. Hope.
Psalm 30:10-12 10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

About the book – To Laugh Once More:
To Laugh Once More is a Victorian Inspirational Romance set in Florida and Georgia in 1895 and follows Lydia Barrington Scarbrough on her quest for purpose.
The War may be over, but the battles still rage.
A dissatisfied wife. A misunderstood husband. Three tragedies will alter their path forever. Will their choices tear them apart, or will they allow them To Laugh Once More?
Three years after her marriage to Hamilton, former debutante Lydia Barrington Scarbrough is dissatisfied with life. She has yet to have children, and she spends most of her days sitting in a circle of women chatting about homemaking. She thought life would be more than what it’s turned out to be. Hamilton travels on business and never takes her with him. What’s a lonely wife to do when she has no children to raise? She longs for adventure and romance, and really, she longs for the fulfillment of her purpose in life. A purpose beyond being a wife and raising children.
Lydia faces a series of hardships that stretch her faith beyond capacity. Leaving her childhood home in Florida for Georgia proves to be more difficult than she ever imagined, and her marriage may not survive the trials. Lydia’s own personal battles drive a wedge between them. What will it take to make Hamilton attempt to save their marriage and draw Lydia back to him?
As Lydia strives to etch out a place for herself in a new world full of unfamiliar prejudice against the poor and uneducated, and she attempts to overcome her private battles of infertility and insignificance, she must help Hamilton understand her deepest longings and learn the true meaning of joy. Will she surrender her will in order to find her purpose? Will her future hold a happier marriage, motherhood, and a calling greater than she could ever have imagined?
They won’t find their place in this world until they find their way back to each other.
This journey through the historic Atlanta and Marietta, Georgia exposes both the beauty and the pain of the heart of the South.

These sound like fascinating books, Sherri!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
Glad to have you, Sherri. To answer the question, I’m happy in the now. I love air conditioning, the microwave, and all modern conveniences. I’d have died back when women wore those huge long dresses and tons of layers and cooked all day with no air conditioning. Ugh.
Lynn Wilson Dixson says
So proud of you Sis!

Thank so much!!
Maxie Anderson says
Hi Shannon. Thanks for hosting Sherri. I agree about all of the modern conveniences, but also know some have taken away from family time like it was when I grew up. People too busy and always on the go. Also so many never sat down at the table and have family dinners. (they say kids that have family dinners at the table have better grades). I hate when everyone has to have a cell phone, game, and such in their hand all of the time. Even when they have company, and while at the table for some who still sit at the table. I would not allow that. I even know some family members who talk to each other at home with texts. Can’t even get up and go to the other room and talk in person. I loved my younger years and when I was raising my children (I was still young, having married at 16.) Things were even more simple them. Life not so fast. I would love to win one of Sherri’s books. Maxie, you are so right! Sometimes these conveniences rob us of the things that really matter!
Melanie Backus says
I think I would go back to a slower, simpler time. The fifties , I think I would choose that time.
