- Where is the most romantic place you and your spouse have ever been?

- Do you and your spouse have a favorite romantic restaurant?
My husband and I discovered that eating at home is more romantic, because it’s private. There are no waiters and crowds to bother us, and I can prepare the foods we truly enjoy eating.
- Do you and your spouse have a favorite song?
Not a specific song, but we like the music of composer, Eric Whitacre.
- How soon after meeting your spouse did you know he was the one?
I knew Peter was “the one” after a couple of dates. It was very near love at first sight.
- How soon after meeting you did your spouse know you were the one?
It took Peter a little longer to fall in love with me than I did with him, but I don’t mind, since he has loved me all these 35 years of our marriage.
- Who is most romantic, you or your spouse?
I think I am more romantic, but my husband might have a few words to say about that.
- What is the most caring thing your spouse has ever done for you?
Peter has been washing the dishes for 35 years, so that I will have some time in the evening to get some extra writing done if I want to. Gotta love it.
- Who said, “I love you” first, you or your spouse?
I said, “I love you” first, but Peter caught up pretty quickly.
- Where did you and your spouse go for your honeymoon?
Cancun, Mexico.

i love the labador retrievers
Although we have two cats and one dog, I am most definitely a dog person. I will feed, take to the vet, give some loving pets, and even attempt to rescue them in a fire, but I tend to tolerate our cats more than bask love on them. Our (or my) English Springer Spaniel is the “favorite child.” I feel much better bestowing that label on an animal than my human children where I might be struck down by lightening. Don’t worry, though, the cats get plenty of love from my daughter who dotes on them like a mom to a newborn. Our springer, Reggie, is a light in my life with her unconditional love and near perfect (term used lightly) obedience. Since, as a human, I will most likely outlive my sweet girl, I occasionally get sad thinking of a life without her and understand now when people abhor the idea of getting a “replacement” pet.
Not to diminish why I read this blog post in the first place, but you got me talking about my dog and I could rattle on endlessly. 🙂 I feel like a stalker when it comes to Summer’s List by Anita Higman. I am consumed with the need to read this book. I have 4 book club novels I have to finish for July, so I am preoccupied with that at the moment or I would have read it already. Anita, congrats on the great reviews. They just increase the hankering!
We have a rottweiler that I love very much. Despite the reputation of his breed, he really is a sweet boy, at least to those he considers friends. However, I have always been more of a cat person. I have an outdoor cat named Surprise and indoor cat named Panther.
Hello Shannon. Thanks for this review. Anita writes great books, so I know this will be good. As to dogs. I like poodles. Main reason is they don’t shed hair everywhere. If you find hair anywhere it is just a piece you can pick up with your hand and toss. So not on all over furniture. We owned a midsize name Missy for about 18 years and she was very loving. Think they are all afraid of storms, but she would get right behind my legs in my rocker and was ok till it was over. But, I think if I got another dog it would be a mini poodle. Maxie
I don’t have a dog….but I do like them…little ones.
I’m not a dog person. I love cats and have 3 of them, but I am afraid of dogs for the most part. I have “granddogs” that I am comfortable with, and I wish that I could become more comfortable with a dog. They make wonderful companions, and are great for alerting people to someone nearby, friend or foe.

I actually met Anita at a writers conference. She’s very sweet and humble.
I’m a dog and cat person. I really love them equally. I had a poodle growing up and a cat named Morris who looked like the orange cat named Morris on the old cat food commercials. In my teens I had a calico named Killer. She never killed anything. I named her that because I was in love with Erik Estrada and he had a chihuahua or some tiny dog named Killer.
After I married, I had weenie dogs. Their all in weenie dog heaven. We have a chocolate lab named Hershey and she’s actually my son’s, but I claim her. And two charcoal gray cats with grass green eyes, Charcoal and Smoky. Charcoal is a neutered tom – very cuddly and playful. He consistently brings me pieces and parts of rodents and smears them all over the front porch. We always have blood on our front porch and every time I wash the guts away, I tell him this is not in my job description.
Smoky is afraid of her own shadow and likes to be petted, but not held. Her favorite thing to do is stay just within your reach and let you pet her. She’ll purr and if you stop petting her, she’ll meow at you. But she won’t come close enough where you can pet comfortably without stretching. If you set her in your lap and don’t hold her there, sometimes she’ll nap on you.
I am a dog person for sure! My favorite breed is a golden lab and we dog sit for some really cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I have read one of Anita’s devotional books and I would love to read this book.
I’m not really a dog person, but we did have a Peek-a-Poo named Nikki for seventeen years while our daughters were growing up. Would love to read one of Anita’s books!
